Popular or beloved characters I just don't care for or get the people's love for: Fantastic four Moon knight Thor namor I'm sure there's more but these are the most popular examples I can think of. Only comic book adjacent but I personally hate (yes hate) dr. Who and professional wrestling. I hate a lot of other stuff too but these just came to me and kinda fit the topic. Plus I'm in a bad mood lol. I bet you hate Krypto and Streaky too.

I have about 150 FF comics from Him's appearance by Lee/Kirby to Vol 3 by Claremont/Larocca, and some things in between. With a good chunk of Byrne's take. I even have a handful of Ultimate FF. I have never really "gotten" the FF either. I recently read a few of the Her issues of Claremont's and I think I've read the Byrne issues at least once since the first time. I even have a good half of the Thing solo series and a lot of Marvel TIO issues. Neither together (even with She-Hulk for a bit) or solo have the FF characters held my attention. They are not characters I avoid, just characters I've ceased seeking out, as I don't think my opinion is going to change. Outside of Him, I think the best FF issues are 347-349 with "The New" FF of Wolverine, Hulk (Joe Fixit), Ghost Rider and Spiderman. And I am really not sure what to say it is. It is not really something specific, as I would say is for other characters. It's just an overall bored, for the lack of a better word, feeling I get reading the FF.

I can't think of a character I actually hate (although concepts like Rage strike me as particularly bad) but right now I would love to slap the hypocritical Storm, Captain America and the deceased Wolverine for their editorially-mandated and irrational hatred of Scott Summers!

I simply don't get the Legion love. Yes, it's had some very entertaining runs in its history (Shooter/Swan and Levitz/Giffen come to mind) but I just can't take seriously a space opera full of characters named Bouncing Boy, Matter-Eater Lad, Kid Psycho and Infectious Lass. I've felt this way since the '60s and I just don't find them that interesting. If I really need a super-team fix, I'll take the Avengers. the old school JLA or my faves, the Justice Society. They can be pretty absurd too, I grant, but with a different vibe I relate to better.
Cei-U! I summon the future schlock!

I laugh out loud thinking of dopey Chuck Taine drinking from the wrong bottle at the Robot Gladiator Tournament! There but for the grace of the Flying Spaghetti Monster go I, Cei-U.

But as a concept it really doesn't work for me.

I think the Legion (at least the Silver Age version) was appealing to me and other nine- and ten-year-olds because the teenaged heroes were modeling and living a fantasy for kids our age: they were respected and trusted by adults; usually made the right decision; fell in love and had relationships; had adventures, of course; and at times, dealt with the big issues, like discrimination, ostracism, and death. And with all those goofy members to offset the world-shakers, you felt as if there would be room for you in this club if you ever wanted to join.
On another note, I have tried to cotton up to both Captain Marvel (of Whiz Comics fame) and Unca Scrooge, but their notable charms just haven't floated my boat. And I'm guessing that the original LSH and those two have a certain silliness in common, which makes me think I should like them far more than I do.
I'm going to try to read the Monster Society of Evil serial again and hope that something clicks.

I thought the Legion caught on in the 60s because it kinda combined superheros and Archie + a lack of adult supervision.

Just read one or two chapters at a time and let it simmer for a few days before going back to it. My favorite segment is the bit with Hermann Goering.

Mr. Mind face to face with Hermann Goering under very bizarre circumstances. Hermann Goering is in a lot of old comic books. Not as much as Hitler, but a lot more than you might expect.

When a super-hero team attacks a single villain, I'm rooting for the villain. It just seems to me a case of bullies ganging up on an individual, no matter how powerful that individual is. The individual comes off as being braver as well. And when its an army of supers like The Avengers, The Legion etc., they come off like a pack of coyotes swarming around a noble lion ...except that the need for an entire team to one villain usually means that the one villain is powerful enough to take out something major. But that is cute as hell.

If I lived in a world with actual superheroes, I'd want them ALLLL to have names like that. Those are the best names ever. It'd make them seem more tangible. Now I am going to HAVE TO get some Legion. I have some stuff, but not enough. And I will admit that those names are harder to stick at first, and I find myself getting name confused, but that's when you hope you can rely on art and distinguishable costumes.

The silver age Legion was cool. My only beef with them was that there was too many of them.

The Lee/Kirby version of Namor is a completely new interpretation of the character that basically craps all over everything Everett was doing.
