To be fair, the short-lived Denny O'Neil and Mike Friedrich runs in the late '60s weren't 'bland', but it was Len 'Emeril' Wein who really 'kicked it up a notch', starting in 1972.

With Dick Dillin art, which elevated anything 'horrible' to 'okay'.

I've never liked when an inanimate object is given "sentience" by a later writer. Green Lanterns power ring was given it, and Thor's Hammer all of a sudden has a personality in the new issues.
There I said it.

I have a theory that Ryan Reynolds and Ben Affleck made a secret pact to hog as many superhero roles as possible just to piss off all the fans. Something must be done. I honestly can't think of a better choice to play Deadpool than Reynolds. Green Lantern was awful, but I don't place that on him. Everything about that movie from top to bottom sucked tremendously. Which I think tends to be the case in the majority of DC's film adaptations. Reynolds is ashamed to even be associated with it. I can see why a lot of people don't like the character of Deadpool, but I'll say he was definitely a fun, entertaining read when Joe Kelly was writing him in the late 90's. Hell, that's one of my favorite runs from that totally lackluster decade.

There I said it. All comic book super heroes are inanimate objects given "sentience" by a writer and an artist

They've also only played 2 each: there are plenty of actors getting more roles in this super hero/comic book movie/TV golden age. Morgan Freeman in Red, Batman and Wanted, Chris Evans as Cap, Human Torch, the sniper in The Loosers and an evil ex Scarlet Johanson as Black Widow, the best friend in Ghost World and a femme fatale in Spirit, Bruce Willis in Red, Unbreakable, Sin City and Surrogates...

The Ring, Hammer and Board were never "alive " before several years ago.

The Shocker's yellow patch quilt costume is the best ugly costume ever designed by Marvel.
There, I said it.

Reynolds is up to 3 roles by this point if you count Hannibal King from 'Blade Trinity'! Much of the enthusiasm for Reynolds as Deadpool in the upcoming movie is that he seems to be making up for the false start he had playing the Merc in 'Wolverine'.

Beta Ray Bill. He's seldom used in comic books these days, have his face have a change when he becomes Beta Ray Thor instead of being the usual horse face.
