I've never gotten over my disappointment about the made-up word "Jedi". I thought they were saying "Jet-Eye Knights". Still sounds more intriguing to me that way. It's not entirely made up; it's a bastardization of the term, "jidaigeki," meaning the genre of period dramas in Japanese cinema. Lucas picked it up from watching Kurasawa and other Japanese samurai movies. That is where those influences come into the Jedi Knights, bringing a supposed martial code, ala bushido. The basic template of the Jedi was the Galactic Patrol, of EE "Doc" Smith, who were the galactic peacekeepers. Within their ranks were the elite warriors, the Lensmen, the chosen few who bonded with their lens, which amplified their physical and mental abilities. The samurai add the more militaristic components, while also giving them a philosophical under-pinning, with the Force being a sort of zen state. He then added influence from Carlos Castaneda, as to what the Force is, being something generated by all lifeforms. Of course, it could also be that Lucas was a fan of the Beverly Hillbillies and did it as an homage to Buddy Ebsen and held back on giving us a character who ran around yelling "Jed....Jed....Jed-i!" You know, Yoda does kind of look like Granny....................... Mountain Jedi!

But then again, you've never seen Jedi making lye soap out by the cement pond...

Oooo, galactic moonshine! From my kitchen counter-- for the trip "out, and back again". (cut to 140 proof for storage).

I can't even muster an opinion either way about Star Wars. I liked it as a youngin' and haven't touched it since. If my DVD's ever got played it was when our oldest son was young and wanted to watch them. Other than my son convincing me to watch Rouge One (which I admit was a good movie) I probably haven't touched anything Star Wars since Dark Horse Crimson Empire mini-series.
Edit: Kinda forgot about watching the prequels. I guess that's actually a good thing.

OMGosh....someone slabbed a digest. I need a drink after this one....
So what's worse, the fact that a digest (likely a reprint one to boot) was slabbed, or the awful pun that Richie's making on the cover?

I think this is the greenest cover I've ever seen.
Almost looks like it was trying to channel this kind of coloring process:

It annoys me when an 'OOP' or 'rare' collected edition costs infinitely MORE than the original comics (1-9).
I am not paying nearly $500 for Battle Chasers.

I don't see how Star Wars is in any worse hands. Lucas only directed three somewhat interesting films in his career. To that you can add two stories that were made in to scripts and films by others. Star Wars has always been a mediocre property. There. I said it. I agree with you, but obviously it clicks with a lot of people. My oldest was born a little bit after the original trilogy, but got way into it when the Phantom Menace came out with absolutely no encouragement. Ditto his son, years later.
But I've really soured on the whole "universe" concept.
If you hate the "Universe" concept, you're gonna LOVE the "Multiverse"! I soured on that one as soon as someone first said it in a movie. Now, that being said, I LOVE multiverse stories in comics. See, I'm old-fashioned, but I think in order to have an interesting Multiverse, you first must have about 20 years worth of interesting Universe. But that's just me.

Lucas had been one of the few, true visionaries in film history who lived up to the title and had most of the industry chasing after him to imitate (directly or indirectly). That cannot be said of the Disney-era Star Wars, where its been wall-to-wall fanservice dreck (e.g., anything associated with idiots in helmets with jet packs), as that's the only way to draw in the most die-hard of fans who like films or TV shows based on minor characters, or characters who were never that important to the overall "Skywalker saga"--the SW property's reason to be. Add characters who can do no wrong, or fail while on the journey (Rey in the Disney Sequel Trilogy), and the utter lack of storytelling skill that would make most video game plots seem complex and creatively satisfying by comparison, and you have a collection of productions that have not resonated (in the popular cultural sense), and are the very essence of disposable "entertainment". Disney/LFL--or any of the EU content creators have never had a day like Lucas at his best, and its doubtful they ever will, even when gifted an IP like Star Wars.
Preach it, Brotha! I have recently, despite the Disney crap, fallen back in love with the OT, and have been devouring "making-of" content. The books by J.D. Rinzler are great. I was reading the Modern Masters Chris Sprouse book, and it dawned on me that I had EXACTLY the same epiphany when seeing the original Star Wars at age 9. That's when I transitioned from "liking to draw" to "people made this... I will do something creative like this for the rest of my life". I read every book I could about how movies were made, how comics were made, etc. I had designs on being a comic book artist, but after college, stumbled into designing a kids' museum, and then video games. Long story short, I agree that Lucas is a true visionary, even if he never has another vision. Just to (painfully) give birth to one great idea, in this case a whole world/universe/genre, is more than most will ever be able to say they did.

Just as a director, I agree Lucas might not be a visionary. Not like his buddies Spielberg and Coppola. But as a producer and movie maker, he unquestionably was. He literally changed how movies are made. If you can, watch the Disney+ docu-series on Industrial Light and Magic. Lucas was the driving force. For those not in the know, he built ILM, created THX sound standards, conceptualized and built non-linear editing (not only for video, but for audio), founded what would become Pixar, had a hand in creating Photoshop, etc. And he did it all INDEPENDENTLY, not backed by a studio.

I'm frowning on those who (still) feel the need to clip the price from the dust jacket of a vintage hardcover. I'm searching for one in particular and it's a common flaw, even if the rest of the book is in excellent shape. Really, really stupid practice from indifferent people who then still try to sell the book.

I can’t imagine that they realize the 500 asking price.

Star Wars has collectively, in its expansive history in various media and merch, brought countless joy to so many.
Fantasy action in a sci-fi setting, great visuals, humor, it’s been covered so many times before.
So we’ll keep our happy little club while folks on the outside are mystified. Because “if you know”, “you know”, you know?
And knowing is half the battle…
