On the subject of color vs B&W about the only time I have found either a preference is with some of the Showcase/Essential TPB like HoM, HoS, Secrets of Sinister House, Marvel Horror, Tomb of Dracula and TotZ (though I think that was orignally B&W?) over the color single issues that I do have from those series. It sets the mood more better in those horror books to be B&W. And thankfully I got most of them as they were being printed, because the cost of some of those is sky rocketing too.

Yeah--Aparo's art looks great in B&W in the Phantom Stranger Showcase, while some of the 60s superhero stuff can look empty.

The 60s superhero stuff, particularly the DC stuff, reads really bad in B&W. Green Lantern suffers worse than most.

I've grown used to modern recoloring if it's done right, but I hate it when the coloring is too bright. I especially hate when the panels don'r have any details in the background and they fill in the space with blocks of color. Having said that, there are times when I see old newsprint comics and am horrified at the coloring.

Sacriligeous? Nah.....way more catchy....b&w is cheap and boring imho... (just my opinion....Alfred E Neuman made me say it)

Modern re-coloring of older comics is the real issue I have, especially when they try and apply modern techniques and just make the books ugly. It honestly sucks out the soul
Like you said, there's also the issue of making the comics look too bright when compared to how muted everything looked in the original.
Marvel has been getting better in both regards. Here's a comparison of Captain America #261 and it's re-print in Epic Collection volume 9

Here's a comparison of Captain America #261 and it's re-print in Epic Collection volume 9 It's a bit of a no-win decision on reprinting old comics in color on white paper, since the original look is a combination of paper that was never really "white" and has gotten less so over the years + the "softer" lines and tones from printing on that paper. Following the old color guides looks garish. Recoloring is often a temptation to add a bunch of modeling and effects. Scanning original books (as in that Jack Cole book from years ago) can turn off some readers. I do like the way Ed Piskor, in Hip-Hop Family Tree and X-Men Grand Design, used a background tone that looked like newsprint and saved "real" white for when he really wanted something to pop.

It's like a remaster. Take the original thing and present it in a cleaned up state. It's far more hit-or-miss when they redo it altogether IMO.

If it wasn't for the different color of Sam's (?) shirt, I'd say that's just an effect of being on better paper, not recoloring. Everything else looks the same. (The lines on Steve's white shirt aren't exactly the same, but it's not something I would notice were the images not side by side.)

Come to think of it, the coloring looks way too smooth on the left picture for the time period. Are we sure that is an actual photo of the original printing??

I only buy 1 new comic every month and I’ve never been a Batman fan.

It seems that non superhero books are taking the lead these days.

I always think Joker in general fell flat for me most times. Jack Nicholson and Mark Hamill's portrayal in Tim Burton's Batman and Batman TAS respectively are about the only time I liked the character. I don't dislike him, just found his shtick not as entertaining as other of Batman's foes. But he's quite obviously popular in both comics and film/TV.

He's just a crazy guy. I never understood why people feared him so much, how he defeats any hero, and why people work for a maniac who regularly offs his own men? Jared Leto in Suicide Squad was particularly egregious. An empty suit.
