Are you really supposed to replace comic bags every few years?
That's what comic bag merchants want us to believe. Considering that one of the major gripes environmentalists have with polyethylene terephtalate is that it degrades in something like 500 years only, I think I'll take a chance with my old mylar bags! Don't fall for the ploys of BigBag. That sounds really wrong.

I only replace them when they start to look or feel yucky.

For some reason, my copy of Tarzan #207 (the first Kubert issue), bought around 1980, came into a thin grocery vegetable bag. It's still in there, fresh and crispy as ever!

In another thread, I told about reading the DC Answer Man column decades ago, where some kid asked if there was a cheaper solution to bagging comics, and Rozakis told him to use Oven Roasting Bags, like you cook a turkey in. I've always wondered if anyone followed this advice, and how badly their comics got ruined.
Edit... I just looked it up and they are made of heat resistant nylon... at least they are now... I don't know what they were made of in the early 80's when I read this.
By the way, Oven Bags have their own wikipedia page.

I got three issues of EC's PANIC at an auction at an NYC con in 75 or 76 and they were in labelled grocery produce bags. It wasn't unusual back then--I don't remember when I first saw bags for sale in comic shops. Until the late 70s, I think most comic buyers didn't immediately stick everything in a bag right after they bought it.

These MADs from 1966-67ish were never bagged either...just bought new, treated like file copies and boxed away. A cool, safe environment preserved them well, just a bit of age toning here and there. The first time they will ever be bagged is with me some 56+ years later.

I don’t think Kurt has ever read an Image book.

I don’t think Kurt has ever read an Image book. Not true. I've read Spawn #1 and the entire 1963 series.
Cei-U! It counts!

I bought a comic, was beaming from ear to ear, got ready to put it with the rest, opened the drawer to slot it in and.....there it was.
Bought a book I forgot I already had....
Only a tenner and I'll sell the spare without any bother but still....I need to take better stock of what I own.
