When I first started reading Spider-Man comics, I thought Spidey's underarm web nets were organic webbing produced from his armpits. Seriously. It's kind of weird to me how most artists (especially after Ditko) nixed Spidey's underarm web cape. I mean to me it's like getting rid of Namor's little wings on his feet, it's iconic One could see it on most covers running into the early 1970s, with Kane omitting it more than Romita. After a time, it appeared impractical. What purpose did it serve, other than the ever-silly panels (during Ditko's run) of Spider-Man using them as one would use a glider?

Snacks on the go.

And it wasn't even a young Franklin. But the incident was part of what seemed to be the beginning of a major, multi-issue story that was cut off after the first issue or two when Englehart was removed from the book, so there's no telling how it would have looked by the end. Englehart was firing on all cylinders back then, and especially on the Dr. Strange series, so I don't discount the possibility that he might have made it work somehow, but yes, it felt pretty weird at the time.

There have been many creepy things in comics over the years but Clea Banged Benjamin Franklin ?If memory serves, it was later retconned away as an illusion foisted on Strange by some baddie or other to drive a wedge between Stephen and Clea.

Reminds me of the Daily Show's America: The Book, their satirical history book. There was a segment on the founding fathers and it had a chart, with an entry of Reasons Why Unelectable (even for those who were elected president). For Franklin, it said, "Loved the ladies. Loved them old, young, fat, thin, whatever. Couldn't get enough. Just loved 'em." Also said under his achievements, "Loved a good fart joke," refering to his Fart Proudly pamphlet.

Much of what had been happening in the previous issues had to do with Strange's internal state of mind - the one where he goes to Hell, for example, and, just before that, his reaction to Eternity re-creating the universe (so that everyone and everything in it except for Strange himself was an exact copy of an original that had been destroyed along with the entire universe of which they were part). So I wonder if perhaps this out of the blue thing with Clea and Franklin might have turned out to be important mainly for how it it was perceived by Strange.
Which is pretty vague and still leaves open a wide range of possibilities: for example, could it have been an illusion or misperception engendered not (or not only) by an unseen enemy but by a possessiveness he had not been aware of previously? Or by a lingering feeling that this wasn't the "real" Clea but a facsimile? Or some intricate intertwining of these and who knows what other ideas.
But really, we don't have enough clues to go by because the whole thing was cut off almost before it had a chance to get started. As it stands now, as the single issue we're left with, I'm the same as most readers: I don't like it. But at the same time, I have a sneaking feeling that by the time the whole story was done Englehart would have made it into something different to what this beginning led us to expect.

(someone already asked this on Quora) (Amazing Spider-Man 231) It is one of the very few times (perhaps the only one!) that they were explicitely mentioned.

Having a net that any enemy can grab during a fight is such a good idea.

Having a net that any enemy can grab during a fight is such a good idea. It’s as silly as a wrestler wearing a tie in the ring:

Having a net that any enemy can grab during a fight is such a good idea. Using a net attached to your body to tie up one of your opponents hands making unusable in the combat is a definite advantage. All depends on perspective and skill. -M
