Typical New York double-talk.
The boat race story’s just that.
And who’d want your friggin’ island anyway?

Well, he is spitting distance from NJ, and it's fairly common knowledge that the NJ state motto is " It's only illegal if you get caught."
It's only natural that a similar line of thinking might occasionally float across Arthur Kill into Staten... most likely from the Perth Amboy end of the kill.
Fugeddaboutit. Sorry, I can't use normal Jersey conversational vernacular here; the F-bomb used as a frequent conversational comma doesn't translate well to a friendly forum.
Unaware as you are that I am Jersey-born and bred, I will refrain from too much criticism of your attempt to spell like you came from the Garden State. However, next time, remember that it's "fugeddaboudit." Wid a "d."
It's pretty plain that the three years I spent living in Berkeley Heights were a wasted effort. I finished 1st through 3rd grade there, and obviously I couldn't master the extra "d" due to my natural southern accent. I also actually put the hard "t"'s in the word "bottle" instead of saying "Bah(silent inflected "t")-el." Thankfully, the shortcomings were offset by learning almost a dozen street swear words by the time I was 7, so I suppose it wasn't a total loss. Funny thing is I didn't know that half of them were swear words, because my friends and their older siblings talked like that all the time. My parents however, toned down my vocabulary, mainly with an Ivory soap buffet.
But by God, thanks to the brief time living there I do know what a white elephant sale is, and you NEVER hear that term in the south. The term "coffee, regular" is another expression that you don't run across in the south unless you're talking to refugees from the tri-state area.

Have I mentioned I'm re-watching Boardwalk Empire? Seems apropos of this particular thread drift.

The early days of the Batman comic strip were pretty darn violent. It was still late 1944, but it feels like by that time the comic book had shed most of its earlier pulp trappings. The strip definitely less so.

Though I think it looks best rendered as red-&-black, I still believe the classic Spidey suit looks fine as red-&-blue. The Spider-Man 2099 suit, on the other hand? Looks godawful when the blue highlights are interpreted as the suit's actual colour. And unlike the classic suit, there's no ambiguity of 2099's intended colour scheme; Peter David had characters describe it within the pages of his very book.

The same holds true for the FF's black costumes!

However, for a while during the '80s-early 90s, they turned black with white trimming (after the quartet went through a negative zone portal whatchamacallit). Those costumes had blue highlights (when they weren't solid black as in Secret Wars), but the blue "highlights" progressively occupied more and more space after John Byrne left the book; the black became some kind of ugly purplish blue colour.

Ah, I see. Can't say I'd ever notoced that the FF's costumes were black and white in Secret Wars. Looking online, I guess that's right, but honestly, there's so much blue highlighting on their costumes -- even in Secret Wars -- that I think I just assumed that they were the same colour as the old costumes. Now I know better!
