As an "opinions" thread, surely this is the ideal place for complaints and criticisms...

Possibly we just need contradiction.

As to the covers done by different artists from the interiors, I don't see it as complaining, just a simple statement of preference.,
As to whether it's accurate to call someone who draws covers only and no interiors a comic book artist, I think it's a technicality and don't really care. Personally, I think of Frazetta, for example, as an artist who use to draw comics at one time in his career, but later on drew covers for the Warren comic book magazines and also paperbacks, etc. If other people want to call him a comic book artist that's fine with me but it isn't how I think of him.
None of it is in the least important. What I think happens is that everyone is so tired of fan-entitlement when it comes to comics, they often assume that any starement that isn't 100% positive is another instance of fan-entitlement. But sometimes it's just someone saying what they like and what they don't like.

Possibly we just need contradiction. The last 50 years of political discourse in one sketch.

I kind of miss reading comics, but not the overhead of buying them, storing them, transporting them, painstakingly handling and storing them, and most of all, paying for them.
There, I said it.

I find Bendis insufferable. Not him. I don't know anything about him. I mean his writing. It's ridiculously wordy and self-aggrandizing and obnoxious and, basically, much better suited to actual books.

Not liked anything I've encountered since. Around about 2000 there was a forum I posted on, where he frequently contributed- he memorably claimed that a lot of his comic book story ideas stem from hardcore porn message boards. I still recall what a weird claim that was.

Can't really apply that meter of thought to this....and he got me reading Spidey again from 2000 up....

He was greatly influenced by playwright David Mamet; and, to a lesser extent, Tarantino. Mamet's a wordy cuss and Tarantino likes his pointless dialogue scenes that make interesting character scenes, but don't advance the plot or reveal facets of the character, apart from obsession with pop culture.

Never got into that comic. It was hot on the heels of their botched and unnecessary Mackie/Byrne relaunch and the Chapter One book- essentially everything Marvel had launched for a few years hadn't been strong, and that was my jumping off moment. As bad as Marvel were at relaunches, I never thought they'd become an annual phenomenon!!

Bendis when he's good is really good. Bendis when he's bad is really bad. He can be kind of like Frank Millar that way. Partially thanks to Marvel editorial's determination to destroy Peter Parker and everything that once made 616 Spider-Man good, his Ultimate Spider-Man run is by far the best Spider-Man book or run of this century. I also consider his X-Men run to be the best mainline X-Men run of the 21st century, though that's not saying that much and there have been spin-off books that have been much better, like Zeb Wells' 2 runs on New Mutants and Hellions.

That's interesting... I've only heard other people criticise his X-Men as tedious and boring, but I've not searched out any internet reviews. Miller was pretty much excellent consistently until he wasn't... 80's/90's awesome, 2000 onwards 😵 shockingly bad. I don't recall any stinkers pre-2000, though that's not saying there weren't. Has he produced anything vaguely readable in the last quarter century? P.S. 616.... is that the main Marvel universe in the comics? What's the number all about?

After a Google I can shed more light on the 616 thing.... and British writers are to blame.
It originated in an Alan Moore written comic I'd never heard of for Marvel UK in the 80s. Then Claremont and later Alan Davis would both reference it in Excalibur. Gaiman would dredge it up in 2004 and it would reappear frequently after that.
The editor of the Alan Moore comic came up with the idea, as an alternative number of the beast, because he hated superhero comics.
