Wolverine is Marvel's Timber Wolf. I cannot believe how blatant they are/were with that. They even look very similar to each other. Everything but the claws! The funny thing is when DC tried to take back their own and give Timber Wolf Wolverine’s personality, the results were terrible. They threw him back to the 20th century and gave him some version of Berserker Rage. Transparent motives and poor execution doomed it from the first issue.

It does look awful though.

My favorite Legion fact, it debuted nearly two years before the JLA did in Brave & the Bold #28.

My favorite Legion fact, it debuted nearly two years before the JLA did in Brave & the Bold #28. The writers needed two more years to come up with Starro, Snapper Carr and the use of lime to defeat a giant starfish. Also, they had to come up with good excuses why Superman and Batman couldn't participate on the Starro case. "Too busy" and "I'm working on a case." I bet. A case of Miller Lite!

I don't see Proty on the list. Neither Proty 1 or Proty 2. You got something against protoplasm? Protoplasm with thought balloons? A heartless omission. Proty 1 gave his life to revive Lightning Lad. Proty 2 was the de facto leader of the Legion Of Super Pets. Is your resume any better? Respect the Proty

Respect the Proty I had to leave out the Legion of Super Pets because there were enough members of the Super Family without including the animals, so Proty 2 is out. Proty 1 is out because of that catastrophically awful Post-Crisis story where it turns out he became Lightning Lad.

That Timber Wolf travesty qualifies for that thread on the worst covers ever.

That Timber Wolf travesty qualifies for that thread on the worst covers ever. It did very poorly in sales in my area. Many of my friends can back me up on this. Worst Cover and Worst Sales ... double whammy!

Here's the last issue I have before #285: Shadow Lass is one of my favorites. I admire her soldiering on despite that outfit. She must have been cold! I'm surprised there aren't any panels where she's wearing Mon-El's cape. "Mon-El, baby, can I borrow your cape? I'm freezing!" Shadow Lass is probably my favourite Legion member, and that's based mostly on the visual design, since I can't remember much about the character. I think the black-on-blue colour scheme looks great (in fact it's spoiled a bit in that cover by the gold bracelets and insignia) and she has the best Vampirella-style bathing-suit in comics, with the possible exception of Moondragon (now there's a Marvel/DC crossover I'd like to see!). Dream Girl, Dawnstar, and Phantom Girl all look pretty cool as well, and I love the name Princess Projectra but, again, can't remember enough about her to say if I like the character. I also think Night Girl should be elevated from a substitute to a regular member, possibly with a slight change in powers, if that's necessary. Hmmm, seems like I only like the female members! Maybe DC should do an all-female Legion series some time. The only males that stand out to me are Blok and Brainiac, none of the others appeal to me much. The funny thing is that when they stole Timber Wolf's costume for Wolverine they left out the best part, which was the wolf's head design on the front. I don't know much about the Legion in general apart from what are by now pretty vague memories of the Great Darkness Saga, so excuse my extremely superficial remarks!

However, I LOVE Starboy's costume. Best. Costume. Ever.

So how many people here have voted in an LSH election? I'll explain that for the newcomers. The Legion always has a leader, and it's a position they vote on periodically. At times, the readers get to vote! The editors make an announcement on the letters page, the fans vote and a few months latter the editors announce the winner. A lot of the time they include the tally for all the members who got votes! I don't know how far back this tradition goes but they were still doing it in the early 1980s when I was reading it... I believe the reader elections started in 1968, with Ultra Boy the first LSH leader voted in by the readers. It was a fun idea, but the downside was that the less popular characters would fade into the background and never get a chance to shine. I started reading the LSH before the reader elections, when Invisible Kid (Lyle Norg) was the leader. I-Kid as leader was an editorial decision, and during his term he appeared in nearly every issue of Adventure so he got a lot of exposure. Once he ceased being the leader, however, his appearances drastically decreased. Another downside is that someone like Wildfire, who had basically just joined the Legion, and was a hothead, would get elected. The writer must have loved that. Still, the reader elections were a fun thing (though I never voted) that made the readers fell like a real part of the comic.
