Just something I was thinking of- I won't really buy a book by any of my favorite Writer /artists unless they do the art part as well. Over the years I've seen Bryne , Starlin, and the rest ,write comics without drawing them and I have no interest in those books. The only exception is when I was already buying them and they switched to another artist. Huh. Yeah, me too. I care about the artist more than the writer - The writer does the plot points, but the artist puts a lot more work (and time!) into the finished product, and determine how the world feels. Same way I care about the director of movies more than I care about the screenwriter. (Although I did buy Birds of Prey when Gilbert Hernandez was writing it!) |

Great stuff from everyone. I am looking forward to the Christmas leftovers thread too to see who (and possibly why creators) got left off. I don't think anyone but Kurt can start threads on this forum, so we'll have to wait until he gets home form his holiday visit, but again a big thank you to Kurt for all he had done and continues to do with this and to everyone else for their contributions, insights and passion.

I'll save it for the leftovers thread when that one arrives, but there's one biggie who would have been very high on my list (had I managed to actually get my arse in gear to produce one), that I don't think appeared on anyone else's, and I am really surprised that he didn't get a mention.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I thought they were the worst issues of Birds of Prey ever, and if I hadn't known they were just fill-in issues, I would have abandoned the title. |

He just did some stuff for Sensation Comics and it's - again - fun but basically insessential and sufused with Silver Age Nostalgia. On some level you can tell that he didn't see superheroes as a vehicle for any sort of serious work. A 6 issue long tribute to Ramona Fradon might not have been what modern comic fans were looking for in 2003 or whatver. . |

He seemed to have no concept of who the characters he was writing were, or what Birds of Prey was about. What most readers of Birds of Prey were looking for was stories about Black Canary and Oracle, not six issues of Metamorpho. |
