He didn't get a great response to them "Yeah, you and my mother liked them." (And, certainly, while I thought they were incredibly good by mainstream DC standards they were some of the worst work Gilbert has done.) He just did some stuff for Sensation Comics and it's - again - fun but basically insessential and sufused with Silver Age Nostalgia. On some level you can tell that he didn't see superheroes as a vehicle for any sort of serious work. A 6 issue long tribute to Ramona Fradon might not have been what modern comic fans were looking for in 2003 or whatver. . He seemed to have no concept of who the characters he was writing were, or what Birds of Prey was about. What most readers of Birds of Prey were looking for was stories about Black Canary and Oracle, not six issues of Metamorpho. Yeah, he basically said "I like COMICS, but superheroes were over for me in the late '60s." (Still, I liked 'em. I like Ramona Fradon A LOT, I like Metamorpho, and I would be fine if superhero comics ended in the late '60s if they were replaced by something else. So I'm certainly not the traditional DC Comics fan.)

Yeah, I looked 'em up.

I confess, Java makes Metamorpho for me. Just the idea that Simon Stagg has a thawed out caveman for a chauffeur and bodyguard and nobody seems to give a damn. It's like, "Dude, Miracle of science right there!" But everyone's all, "Him, nah. He's just a pest. Don't pay any attention to him."

Back in the 50-60's it was common to accept crazy scenarios in comics. They weren't really based "in reality" as todays comics try to be. I can't imagine Krypto being created in todays market.

Oh I dig that TOTALLY, and I do love me some Silver Age DC. But with something like Krypto or Lori Lemaris or Bat-Mite, the characters will at least acknowledge that they're odd or special in some way ("Ha Ha! He's chasing those satellites, just like regular dogs chase cars!"). I'd be like if Steve Lombard was an alligator-man from Neptune, but nobody even mentioned it, and just focused on the fact that he used to play football, or what a boorish bully he is.

There were a few entries that were flimsy. Co- writing a book is not what the CCC was about this year, yet I saw a few creators listed that didn't do the writing themselves. Oh well, I guess Kurt will sort it out.

It still would never sell in comic book form. But , wow, if you release a video these days you can have 1 million views in a day. When's the last time a comic sold a million of anything ?

According to Bleeding Cool, one of the most reordered comics because it sold far more than retailers were anticipating. -M

Ha. Nice. Still doesn't have near the exposure as a video on youtube. Comics will always be a niche medium in America.

Just proves it needs more animals and less silly super heroes. My Little Pony agrees with this. An upcoming CCC could be Animals on Parade

Oh well, I guess Kurt will sort it out. This is true but you probably shouldn't count on me sorting it out. I've caught what I could but I'm just not conversant enough with foreign comics, indies and post-1986 Big Two stuff to act across the board. As I stated elsewhere, I run these surveys on the honor system, counting on you folks to play fair and to do your due diligence before posting. If you guys err (or, heaven forbid, cheat), there's not a lot I can do about it. Cei-U! I summon the harsh reality!
