Not a JLA fan, particularly of that era, but I agree just on principle. Could it be that the "very lame" comment (or should I just say the very lame comment) was marked on the protective plastic CGC case, or whatever it is, rather than the actual comic cover itself? I hope so. Nope. The CGC label says the writing is actually on the cover. On closer look it also has a subscription fold right down the middle and what appears to be a water stain. Right you are, I should have looked more closely. I can only find solace in the fact that defacing the cover was indeed a very lame idea.

I just laughed at this. Because on the CGC label it has it in all caps, just like it's written on the cover. Hahahaha.

I no longer have them, but I had a number of DC Comics (among them I believe the First Issue Special issue with the Return of the New Gods) where whoever had owned them to a razor blade and cut out all the pages that had ads or letters pages, etc. so that all that was left was the story pages. I had 6-7 DC books like that, and the amazing thing was they were bought in 3 different state s(CT, Massachusetts, and Ohio, so unless the owner moved around a lot, there were multiple people doing this. When I was helping out at the comic shops we would find lots of things inside comics hidden by people when we bought collections-naked Polaroids of (we assume former) girl-friends, rolling papers, condoms, or anything else someone wanted to hide from friends or family. We also had one come in where some of the issues they sold in the collection were cut out of Fireside Books (Origins of Marvel Comics, Son of Origins, etc.) with scissors/razor blades, and then stapled together with color photocopies of the front cover attached on top, all bagged & boarded with photocopies of the Overstreet & Wzard pages from the late 90s showing values for the books highlighted (in yellow). Not sure if someone was trying to scam someone else with them during the speculation era. Sorry Coldwater, no pics. -M Man, I have dozens of stories like that, but mostly involving my vinyl collection! I've probably bought around 250 000 records in my lifetime, so far, many collections, the biggest one of 35000 in one go with a friend from a national radio station. But the craziest collection ever was maybe of 1200 units, I flew to Miami to get it and had to stay an extra week after purchase, because it turned out that more than half of the sleeves contained several small plastic bags witholding cocaine! One record I also bought had a bag filled wth pubic hair (but I think it was intended by the arist). Most library music records have personnal notes written on the backside, with sometimes a spot intended for that, but with some Italian abstract 60ies/70ies ones I have, the description can be mesmerizing : one had "Like Bette Middler traveling to Hiroshima in 1945"... I could go on, but this isn't about comics, so....

Man. My life is really unexciting. Or maybe you're really good at keeping a low profile : what kind of "goods" worth between 50 and 300$ do you keep shipping in your "business"?

So... I have like 40,000 comic books. Acquired from a variety of sources. In varying conditions. And some with holes cut out of pages, writings or drawings on them... But not a single one with an added penis. So I suspect there is something more than mere chance at work in shaxper's collection. I have more like 15,000.. but same here. I concur... what aren't you telling us, Shax?

So I suspect there is something more than mere chance at work in shaxper's collection. How do I explain this delicately? Male Silver Age Comics have drawn on penises. Female Silver Age Comics do not... I am an adult. I learned all about the Bird-Man and Swarm at a young age.

Do we have comics from the same previous owner? Cei-U! I summon the ca-razy coinkidink!

I used to have a comic that had a Tales to Astonish cover on a Tales of Suspense interior. The pages showed no sign of multiple staplings so it apparently came that way from the printer. Don't ask me how that's possible.

The first comic that I thought of when this thread started was my extremely well loved coply of Justice League of America #55. It doesn't have anything comical like biro penises drawn on it...it's just a well worn, much loved comic that has doubtless been through many children's hands in it's time. For that reason alone, I love it -- masking tape and all -- and I'll never part with it... Oh, and it also features a panel that our dear Cei-U! was using as his avatar until semi-recently...
