I was going to use my Mark Waid thread, but this makes more sense.
My pull for December:
Iron Man #4 - Mary Jane on the cover is mostly a trick... she's only in the last two pages. No ide what they're doing with her yet. This issue was mostly Tony vs. Ninjas. I like the art, but I'm not sure I like the Iron Man armor being so changeable... it makes things too easy. Highlight of the issue: Tony goes to a children's hospital (which features a RL kid, which is awesome), and Doom (who happens to be there, no explanation why) says to him. "If you want to help these children, cure them. You're a scientist, not a clown'. Here, here Doom!
Spidey #1 - This very much reminds me of Ultimate Spiderman.. Spiderman re-imagined in today's world. It was OK, but not great. I didn't love the characterizations, but I'll still with it for a bit, since I've very glad it exists.
Ms. Marvel #2 - Continues to be the best book in the line, IMO. Great characters, good story, and some interesting meta stuff to think about.
Dr. Strange #3 - Meh. Bachalo on art was a great idea, but the story isn't doing it for me, and Dr. Strange is acting far too much like magical Tony Stark.
Thor #3 - This would be an awesome storyline if Thor was in it. Jane Foster... meh. I'd rather the were focusing on the cool nine worlds stuff instead of the fact that Thor is a girl. This issue actually didn't have too much of that (only a bit, where Heimdall saves her, where he would NEVER have insulted Odinson in such a way), but it still is just sorta hanging there like a cloud. They uber-story with Roxxon started with ODinson, I hate that he doesn't get to finish it.
Hercules #2 - Great story so far... I hope they keep it in it's own bubble, it works better that way.
ANAD Avengers #2 - They seem to be focusing on the Nova-Ms. Marvel relationship... I still hate Sam Alexander, so I'm not loving that. Definitely not as good as the first one, but still good.
Ultimates #2 - Too cosmic for it to make alot of sense, IMO.. this is the book Hickman fans should be reading. I do like Rochfort's art, but I'm not sure why Black Panther actually LOOKS like a panther. They did a nice job making him belong though, when he seemed really out of his weight class at the start.
Overall:
I HATE HATE HATE that every darn book has a world shattering threat to deal with, and none either overlap or mention one another. You can't really tell me these fit in the same universe.. they just don't.
That said, Hercules (and to a smaller extent, Ms. Marvel) work alot better that way, so I guess I should just get over it.
Waid is still trying (he has Tony explain that he was using a 'one off' for ANAD Avengers, then summons his
'real' armor, which matches the book), but it's not really happening.
I like the new dress on a couple of the books that lists the issues as "#2 2015" on the cover. I hope that start doing that with all the books. Far, far better (and actually helpful) that the 3 digit '003' format they started using during Marvel Now! that hurts all the more since books barely hit double digits these days, never mind 3.
