Alrighty then, a 2 month to go check in...
In 2016 I hope to…
1. finish reading (or rereading) the following runs
-Master of Kung Fu Done
Done
only up through #84...
finished not only the first Marvel series, but the second series, the X-Men/Micronauts mini, the first Image/DEvil's Due series, the second Devil's Due series and the Karza mini-series
Done
No progress
Done
Done
No progress
only up through #7
only up through #4
only through #11
completed 6/12, made progress, but did not complete 4 of the remaining 6.
now read up through #50
no progress
no progress
read up through #84
read through #53 and Annual #3
no progress
read all the Brave & Bold & Mystery in Space appearances, and up through Hawkman #6
read stories up through Detective Comics #258
no progress
no progress
finished all 12 volumes of Hellboy, Hellboy & the BPRD 1952 and the BPRD 1946-1948 omnibus
So made some (and sometimes significant) progress in 6 of 11 targeted series.
Finished through 1972, but decided not to continue reading that way.
I read all the de Camp/Carter additions/revisions for the first 3 Ace volumes
With what I have read this year (added to what I had previously read) I've now read every comic and comic strip story I own from the late 1920s (when Buck Rogers started) through 1939 including all the Tintin, Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, Batman, Superman and Timely books I have in reprint collections from that time (which encompasses 146 "issues" worth of material as I measure it). Using the same measure I have no read 414 of the 528 "issues" I own from the 1940s. However, I have only read 89 of 269 "issues" of material from the 1950s, so a ways to go there. Still making good progress.
Let's see...
started but only read Longbow Hunters #1-3 and #1-4 of the ongoing
started and read #1-3 of the magazine issues #1-10 of the regular series
have not started any of these
completed reading the entire series
no progress on either of these
started and read through issue #12
no progress on either of these
so started 4 of 12 of these, finished one of the 4 I started.
started the year needing over 100 issues of SSOC, now need only 12.
Have completed Heavy Metal for the years 1977 and 1978. Need 1 issue each for 1979 and 1980. need only 2 for 1979, and 2 for 1980. need 3 each for 1981 and 1982. However still need 7 issues for 1983 and 10 each for 1984 and 1985. Have made progress on the earlier years, but not so much the '83-'85 period.
acquired 17 of 27 needed issues, need only 61-70
completed main series, and all of the follow up 1 shots. Need 2 issues from the 3 issue Tales of Tellos follow up mini
picked up between 5-10 issues, still need a large chunk of the run
picked up 10-20 issues, still need a dozen or so to complete the series
picked up 6 of the 13 issues I needed, but the Oracle early appearances are still among those I need
only picked up a handful of these, still need a large chunk of the run
picked up a small number of issues, still need 6 to complete series
only picked up a handful of issues, still need a large chunk of the run.
made good progress picking up 20-25 issues plus one of the treasury editions
so making slow but steady progress on most of these runs, even though a few other series (like ROM) have taken more of my back issue attention since the year started.
let's see...
picked up 1 volume
now have all 8 volumes of the main series released and pre-orderd Vol. 9 due out before the end of the year. Still need to get the spin-off series trades
picked up 1 of the 2 trades I needed
finished picking up all 12 volumes of Hellboy, got Hellboy in Hell Vol. 1, the Hellboy and the BPRD 1952 trade and 2 volumes of Baltimore
picked up 1 volume of the Saga trades
have not gotten any more Rachel Rising yet this year...
picked up 1 more volume this year...
so making porgress on all but 1 of the targeted series.
done fairly well here including:
-Kubert-acquired b/w 20-30 issues of Kubert work including Tarzan, Tor, The Bible, Abraham Stone Vol. 1 and others
-Druillet acquired Delirius
-Frazetta-acquired Frank Frazetta Fantasy Illustrated #1-3, The Comic Art of Frank Frazatta, Frazetta: Legacy, Frazetta: Icon plus a handful of paperbacks w/Frazetta covers and Blazing COmbat #2 with the Frazetta cover
-Pratt acquired Corto Maltese: Under the Sign of Capicorn
-Steranko-added Hulk annual cover reproduction
Moebius added Vol. 1-4 of Epic Moebius collections and the Azarach collectiuon by Heavy Metal from the late 70s. The Edena volume just released by Dark Horse is on my X-Mas list (crosses fingers)
Kirby-added a handful of Kirby covers, completed Captain Victory, got the Silver Star Graphite Edition, some Jack Kirby Collector compilations, trades of Kirby Marvel stuff, etc.
so done well with adding material form most of my favorite collectors. Should have included Darwyn Cooke on the original list, as I have been targeting stuff by him too.
no progress, likely abandoned for 2016
done a lot more of this than I anticipated...
I have gotten...
Sandman original water color
Mark A. Nelson gallery showing print
Walt Simonson LAW print
2 Sam Glanzaman Attu prints
Earl Norem Conan print
Bernie Wrightson Werewolf print
3 sketch cover commissions from Justin Wasson (Space Ghost, Ming & Green Arrow) plus a Thundarr commission from Justin
Micronauts/Biotron sketch cover from Dave Aikins.
dabbled a bit here...
picked up some Mouseguard to try that I had been curious about, finally took the plunge on Terry and the Pirates by Canniff, but haven't really explored as much as I hoped. I kind of got sucked into the vintage toy rabbit hole this year, and done more with that than I anticipated, taking time, money and focus away from newer comic pursuits.
