I enjoyed the recent Ruse mini Marvel put out. I think I was one of 6000 buyers.

I never got the Land hate. His Birds of Prey run was very nice. Did he get seduced to the dark side afterward? About that time, yeah. He went from drawing to photo referencing to tracing to just copying (a very small number of re-used) image files he finds on the internet into assembled pages that don't tell the story well and then having his inker trace those. Here is an example where he turned Brad Pitt into Magneto and didn't really do much drawing at all, if you consider there was an inker involved as well. There are other examples where he didn't just use photos, but other artists' creations like Industrial Light and Magic's Dinosaurs from Jurassic Parc as Dragons in Sojourn, or other comic book artists' drawings. Again, not "swiping" or tracing, but scanning, selecting, pasting. There's also the suspected heavy use of porn in his swipes MANY of his female faces look incredibly suspect once you see there's a pattern

But just like Liefeld, He continues to get lots of work. No one in the industry has any problem with it, so the complaints must be a vocal minority.

He hasn't been a positive influence on sales, either. Mighty Avengers flopped in spite of fan favorite characters on the team and good writing. And when Gillan's Iron Man switched to an actual pencil artist with Dale Eaglesham, sales jumped up immensely. He is fast and makes deadlines. He is the ghost of Vinnie Coletta.

I'm more inclined to say that Mighty Failed because it was mostly minority characters, and maybe the comic buying public is not ready to accept this yet.

His Spider-Woman also under-performed, and she is no minority.

(I also enjoyed the Mystic reboot, even though that one was completely different from the original. Sigil was disappointing though). I liked El Cazador, but the dutch crewmen annoyed me to no end due to the bad dutch. Also liked Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. And for some reason I enjoyed Crux even though I hate Atlantis myths and am usually not that big a Waid fan. Must have been Epting.

But just like Liefeld, He continues to get lots of work. I still prefer the 'tracing' to Rob anyday lol... The faintest of praise, to be sure. And the occasional pin-up might look decent. Land's weakness as an artist becomes most apparent when it comes to sequential story telling. When the poses make no sense. When the story does not flow from panel to panel. When characters have the same damn facial expression in every panel even though they go through a range of emotions. One Day Northstar Will Look Left(And once again: Land does not even do the tracing. The inker does the tracing. Land just pastes. He's Paste-Pot-Greg.)

Never draw what you can swipe. Never swipe what you can trace. Never trace what you can cut and paste. And never do any of that if you can hire somebody to do it for you..
We all know who's credited with saying this, right?

Well I started picking up Sojourn because of the Greg Land art...before I heard about the tracing, lightboxing etc...the finished product doesn't hurt my eyes as would someone else's 'genuine' art when nothing is anatomically correct, especially with female characters.

I would gladly look at Land's art versus so many others where it seems every 4th panel I have no idea what they're trying to draw.

Ah, there is that Jurassic Park dino with added horns.
