Nice! Interestingly, the previous issue of Superman: Man of Steel also homaged an early piece of Joe Shuster's. Wally Wood seems to have used it too, though I wonder how available that Shuster sketch was back then. I posted this some months ago in this thread but for convenience I'll re-post it here. Nice find, farrar. I have a feeling that sketch may have been in the air when Wood did this cover. Or maybe there's another cover in between the sketch and the Wood drawing that someone else who'd seen the original had done. Oh, and this one comes to mind as I'm writing this: It came out a few months before THUNDER Agents 1. Hmmmmm.

Nice piece of art, and homage, by Ordway. I actually prefer his Parasite to the original (the face mostly). And I like the notation he and/or DC added.

... And The Spectre comes in at the eight panel below taken from All Star Comics 1 ... Right, I recall seeing that in the Dial B for Blog archives on this particular issue. Thanks for posting those All Star images here, cw--these sorts of paste ups fascinate me. I always wonder if back then these sorts of paste ups were used for convenience, time constraints, etc., or was there a sense that it was important to keep characters on model? Probably a combination of reaasons.
