Just finished Gold Key Alliance from Dynamite & all I could think about was how no one except Valiant can make the Gold Key characters work. Hopefully we will see it happen again someday. Stranger things have happened. Hey we even had a brief Atlas revival a few years ago!

I've got that and haven't read it yet.
Might start on it tonight.
Barely knew the characters before Valiant and know love them. Yes, even with less-than-great stories sometimes, I still follow the characters.
Outside of the pre-Valiant appearances of the GK characters, I'm pretty sure I have all of their appearances.
BTW md62, Valiant is introducing Savage, their own version of Turok.

I love em so much I'm willing to buy anything with them and it's at least interesting to see what others try with the characters.

I remember liking the Dark Horse line and really surprised the market didn't like them more.
Haven't read Dynamite's Magnus yet.
Update : Scratch reading Gold Key Alliance. Waiting for it to finish and buying the trade, though I might read some Dyna-Key tonite.

Stranger things have happened. Hey we even had a brief Atlas revival a few years ago! I'm going to my LCS for the first time since May this coming week. Once I do, I intend to read and review Gold Key Alliance as part of my Magnus Robot Fighter by Era thread. I didn't have much hope for this series to begin with, but your post makes me even more concerned. Dynamite is truly the first publisher to ever screw up the Magnus property. Every other incarnation, no matter how off-beat and unique, had positive qualities. I don't see that with Dynamite's treatment.

I was disappointed with it & I liked Dynamite's Magnus. One of the biggest problems I had with the story was it was a 2 issue story arc stretched out to 5 issues.

All too common these days I'm afraid.
That's part of what's driven me away esp from Marvel and partly from DC as well.
The Indie titles aren't as bad in most cases.

Just caught myself up to speed on Faith. Not bad, but not a series that's really compelling me in the long run. Faith feels more like a series of cliches than a character. Maybe it's a male thing, I don't know.
Anyway, it looks like A LOT is going on in Valiant right now, and some of it is piquing my interest, but I go into a new series full steam ahead or not at all, so I'd like some advice on the following titles (for anyone reading them):
Harbinger Renegades: I really loved the original Harbinger run but felt it wandered a little too far off course by the end of the Harbinger War, so this certainly sounds enticing, but do I need to have read The Imperium? Heck, should I go back and read The Imperium?
X-O Manowar: Really impressed that Valiant has at least kept one title going without renumbering 2.5 years in. I dropped this title shortly after Aric had created his own nation on Earth, feeling like the series was just sort of meandering. Has it gotten more interesting since then? Is it worth going back to read the issues I've missed.
Rai and 4001: I was really and truly not impressed by the first Rai limited series, but Rai was my absolute favorite character/premise from the original Valiant Universe. Am I missing much here?

Haven't read the last few issues of X-O yet, but it's been consistently good IMO. Coming up on its 50th issue !
Harbinger Renegades isn't out yet.
Haven't read Imperium yet but I'm going to read what I have tonight so we can discuss !
Rai and 4001 AD = not there yet.

So, as I laid down in bed last night with my wonderful iPad, I remember as I tried to bring up Imperium, that the app has been weirding out for about a week now, which is why I switched to Dark Horse Digital the last few nights and have been reading Of course Dark Horse is working fine. Since Apple's last software update, the Comixology app has been severely screwed, which has nevered happened to me before. Going to the App Store and reading reviews, I see I'm not the only one. Added both the good and bad to my own review of the app. I can access here at my desktop, but it's not the same. If it weren't for the iPad, or another tablet, I probably would've stayed with paper, but the iPad and digital comics are such an easy comfortable fit. I lay across my bad or prop myself up, and read like I did when I was a kid before going to sleep. Not a desktop Not a laptop Not my iPhone As soon as it gets fixed I'm reading Imperium ! In the meantime, it's Goon's Story Time

Update :
Contacted Comixology about the app not working. They emailed me some questions finally coming down to "what version of iOS are you on ?"
I always update, but in the last few years have waited a couple of days to see if there are any major bugs and give them time to be corrected.
There was an update last week I ignored while waiting for the "all clear".
Updated but still not operating correctly, so I uninstalled and re-installed, and we're all good once again.
The Goon gets put on temporary hold while I read Imperium tonight.

Read the first 4 issues last night.
I usually forget to, but at the end of the issue you can rate the issue 1-5 stars.
5 stars all the way, and I don't give that out easily.
Fantastic series. I don't think you'll be disappointed Shax.
Looking forward to reading the rest of it and getting caught up to current Valiant.
The first part of the first issue is incredible and then you'll get a transition and go "whoa !"

So this past Sunday's episode of Geeking Out on AMC (Kevin Smith's other pop culture show) featured a visit to the set of Valiant's new Ninjak project.
Looks like they've decided to not go the traditional movie or tv route but are producing digital content for online viewing, and they've hired Aaron Schoenke and Sean Schoenke the brothers behind the Super Powered Beatdown fan films to make the movies. THe first project is Ninjak vs. the Valiant Universe.
Here's a sample of one of their films...
on he one hand, good on them for being realistic, but on the other hand, I don't think it's going to help all that much raising the awareness of Valiant outside the hardcore comic community, raising it within comic fandom sure, but raising awareness outside fandom where casual audiences would recognize he characters and give big budget films or tv shows a chance, not so much. The 7 minute segment on Geeking Out probably did more for that than the actual digital content they are producing will and all that did was feature Tiffany Smith doing kung fu with a couple of guys who looked like generic ninja thugs, nothing that would make Valiant stand out as something different. Hiring guys that do stuff that appeals to the stereotypical who would win rumbles segment of fandom isn't going to help with reaching a wider audience either, no matter how good it looks on screen.
