I wasn't even looking at lava people because I thought the artist of the cover did that for the heck of it and I did not even paying attention to the nature of her feet of which Hoosier X mentioned to me earlier on this thread. I just like this cover for the pure innocent look of that poor beautiful girl face!

So funny...or NOT...was it not requested that people not quote images from others?? And yet, it still happens...why? If I recall, one of the reasons was that it was hard to distinguish between actual entries & such...also, it sways other people to vote in a specific way. So in other words...just STFU!!!!!!!!

Or...just post your entry and DO NOT RESPOND to others...do not try to influence the vote.

Or...just post your entry and DO NOT RESPOND to others...do not try to influence the vote. I don't think anyone is politicking for theirs or other covers, bry. And asking folks here not to respond to some of the great covers that are posted week after week seems a bit harsh... not to mention antithetical to the concept of a forum. Can't say I've ever found the reposting of images a distraction or a problem.

As I remember that particular discussion, you're not supposed to make comments after the voting starts. Unless I missed something, no one has ever suggested that no comments should be made on this thread until the voting starts.

Can't say I've ever found the reposting of images a distraction or a problem. As the one who stands accused in this instance, let me say that I wasn't trying to influence the vote or anything that consequential. I saw something funny about the cover posted and replied to it with a quote. If I hadn't quoted it, my comment wouldn't have made any sense unless someone went to the trouble of looking back at the original post. In other words, if you have to explain a joke, it kills it.
There hasn't been, to my knowledge, any restriction against quoting in the Cover Contest threads, just discussion. If the folks who do the counting finds it to interfere in some way, we can look into that. As is, I think just having the names listed in bold at the end counting for the vote is fine.
I caused confusion, which was not my intent, and I'm sorry for that. I will not however "STFU", because that is, as Prince Hal noted, completely contrary to the concept of a forum. And, as we all know what "STFU" stands for, I'll issue a general warning against its use here and elsewhere on the boards.

Thanks, DE.
I realize I also copied an image and for exactly the reason you did. Sorry also if I confused anyone. Certainly wasn't my intent, which was to contribute to the lighthearted, convivial tone that has always been the hallmark of this thread.

Sorry, wasn't trying to be an ass, but do feel like commenting on & replying to other persons submission can influence the vote. I just feel like everyone here should be able to submit an image and not be open to further comment by another.

Quoting, commenting or even clicking the like button for a cover posted doesn't influence the voting. I have had covers that several people have liked (via the like button) but haven't received nary a vote. The contest is a fun part of the community to share the joy of comics, not a competitive cutthroat operation to see who wins. I brought this contest over form our old home when we moved at the request of several folks who used to participate over there. It has grown and blossomed here becasue people love to comment on the stuff being posted.
Once the voting starts, quotes and comments do become a distraction for the person tallying, making it slightly more difficult to do, so typically folks have begun to refrain from commenting from Tuesday morning when the voting starts until Wednesday morning when it's tallied, but other than that, conversation has always been encouraged. Now if you are quoting someone who quoted someone who quoted someone else and your reply only refers to one of those quoted texts, sure trim the reply to remove the unneeded quoted posts, but quoting to give context to your reply is pretty much standard operation procedure.
I'm not a admin/mod anymore and I won't speak for the current team, but I'm saying play nice folks, that's the defining character of this site versus others I have seen on the net. That friendly welcoming community feel is our calling card, so let's not lose that in a thread that should be celebrating community. We all have different points of view and debates can get intense, but at no point should the get disrespectful.

I understand your feelings and viewpoint, and should the majority of participants in the weekly contest agree, we can certainly look at changing the rules for the future. I don't want to hijack the thread further, but if anyone else would rather limit the back and forth comments during this contest, please PM me and I'll start a separate thread to discuss it.

All I am saying is POST your image/issue cover & then walk away from this thread until voting time. It is not a difficult concept. If you reply & post an image of another's cover & say something positive...YOU ARE INFLUENCING how others may vote. I say this...just post your own submission & refrain from commenting on what others post. LET PEOPLE DECIDE AT THE END WHO AND WHAT THEY WILL VOTE FOR.
