Finished reading the Spider-Man vs. Silver Sable trade paperback. It collects Amazing Spider-Man #265, 279-281 and Peter Parker, Spectacular Spider-Man #128-129. A couple years ago I had read the similar trade paperback Spider-Man vs. Black Cat and thought to myself, I should really start reading 1980s Spider-Man. I didn't, but in reading this collection I am once again considering a change to my Reading Goals for the year. I bought those issues as they were coming out and I remember really liking them at the time. I have re-read them since, but that was an absolute age ago, so I'm not sure how I'd feel about them now or if the story holds up.

I can't believe a trade of that exists.. neat!
Read the first few Claremont Spider-Woman issues.. and a few things struck me
I really like it so much better when a new writer organically sets up his status quo, instead of just starting in and pretending it's always been the way it is. It takes Claremont 4 issues, but he takes Jess from being a Bounty Hunter in LA with a handler/info person behind the scenes and ties with Spider-Man to A PI in San Francisco living with her actress best friend and ties with the X-Men, and it all makes sense nicely in the story. There are also a few footnotes when the character mention previous stories, which I miss ALOT. When I grumble about the loss of the share superhero universes, this is the sort of thing I'm talking about. Claremont also seems to be powering her up some, but, again, in an organic way that makes it seem like development, not a change.
That said, the little things that were ignored/missed that really bugged me. Like she fights Angar the Screamer... not at random but is actually hunting him. Would the first thing you thought of to do is get some ear plugs? I suspect the reason was to use her 'poison doesn't get me the 2nd time' power more expansively, but still.
The there's several times she treats Lindsey McCabe like crap, and no one cares. No one is that understanding.. or that dumb.
Most of all, when they have their little alien diversion, she loses her costume (and makes it a point to worry about it).. next issue, same costume,no mention. Don't bring it up if you're not going to make it a thing!
Overall though, pretty good stuff...I'm glad I was able to nab the old essential trade at a good price.

I’m up to Avengers #6. Zemo and the original Masters of Evil!
The Melter! He has a melting ray in his chest!
The villain Black Knight, who will eventually die and no one will notice for several years.
Radio-active Man! He’s Red Chinese and yet he’s green because he’s radio-active!
I love the part where they get a hold of Paste-Pot Pete and he looks like the Wizard.
They are so evil! They are attacking New York City with paste!
It’s all so awesome!
I love the Chic Stone inking. Every panel looks like a stained glass window.

But once Zemo saw that they had Paste Pot Petes dissolving chemical, why didn't he take some to heal himself? Thor on the black Knights horse was a cool image.

Zemo should've starved to death long before this story. The Marvel Universe Handbook claimed that he survived all those years by being fed intravenously while living in the Amazon jungle with a tribe of Stone Age-level aborigines. Even if that were true, he'd be seriously malnourished and definitely not strong enough to carry on as he does here. And what's that mask made out of anyway? The paste couldn't have glued it to his nose and mouth or he couldn't breath or speak, so why not just tear it open? The whole scenario is just a piss-poor, badly-thought-through rip-off of Dr.Doom blaming Reed Richards for the damage to his face. Stan and Jack could've--and should've--done better.
Cei-U! I summon the lapse in logic!

Agreed. Maybe that’s why they knocked him off 9 issues later.

Zemo somehow creates a material that is indestructible, yet permeable and see through on one side, and he only makes a mask with it?

This begs the question.... if the Black Knight's horse can carry Thor, and Thor is carrying the hammer, does that mean the horse is worthy of carrying the hammer? Discuss.

Why does Zemo wear a tiara?
And why is he worshipped by Amazonian natives? Did they run out of Eskimos?
And shouldn’t he be overheating wearing a fur-lined coat in the Amazon?

No--while I'm not saying the horse isn't worthy, the hammer can be moved, just not lifted.
For example, if you were grocery shopping and saw that Thor was also grocery shopping and he left the hammer in his cart while he went to pick up some chips in the next aisle, you could wheel that cart out of the store and up a ramp into the back of a truck and drive off. But no way you're lifting that hammer out of the cart.
Similarly, if you were at the playground with Thor and went on the seesaw, you'd both go up and down just fine. In fact, I'll maintain that if Thor just left the hammer on the seat of the seesaw, you could pull down the other side and raise it onto the air. But that's it.
