I'd like to read the wraparound info on this, though I can still find Denis books pretty cheap, so I looked on Amazon. Yow! $159!
However, used copies from other sellers start at $4.79
Yeah, that guy who thinks he's getting $159 needs his head examined. That drives me nuts, but not as much as the guys who list books at $3.99 and then want $25+ for shipping. Ummmm...no.
I think I'll send him $1.59, I'm sure that's what he meant.

I bought the recent Marvel Masterworks volumes for the Captain America stories in Tales of Suspense. Volume One is TOS #59 to TOS #77 and Volume Two is TOS #78 to #94. I had all these issues of TOS in the late 1970s. They were so cheap! But I sold a lot of my comics about 2000 and my Tales of Suspense collection went with it. So I haven’t read these stories for a long time. And I love this stuff! To be honest, my favorite Captain America stories of all time are in this run, mostly the Red Skull stories. (And my number one Cap storyline is the cosmic cube epic that began about #75 and ended in #81.) So it’s been a very long time since I read my favorite Captain America stories. I’ve only had it for a few days, so I’ve only read from #59 to #62. I haven’t gotten to the good stuff yet. But the next issue is the retold origin of Captain America, and then two issues after that is the first Silver Age appearance of the Red Skull! It gets really good really fast! The WWII stories are what really cemented my love of the character. I've said this before, but I grew up with a VHS tape collecting the Marvel Super-Heroes serials and it had those episodes on it. While it does a good job of building Skull as this impossible to conquer baddie, I really don't care too much for the Sleeper stories
Also, I finished the last of "The Death Of Iris West" Flash book. Ending wasn't exactly to my liking, seemed like Bates kind of pulled it out of thin air without much thought, which I hate saying because of how much I've enjoyed his Flash run so far
Still though, thought it was good for the money even if the ending was a bit of a turd

I Have been binge reading some runs that I always wanted to get to . Last night I read JLA #139, it starts the Steve Engelhart run. Boy, was it hard to read because of the really lackluster Dick Dillan artwork. He really could have benefited by studying the Jack Kirby layouts during this time period. I understand that Engelhart was hired to give the JL team personalities. But with this really boring page layouts , I'm going to have to force my way through to # 150.

Dillin gave the JLA just as much personality as he did the Blackhawks!

TPTB at DC disliked the dynamic story telling at Marvel. They had a house style that was more, I would say, toned down. They would never let Dillan do Kirby type layouts.

That’s why Marvel took over the number 1 spot and never looked back.

Dillan was the least talented of all the regular working artists at DC.

That’s why Marvel took over the number 1 spot and never looked back. I always preferred the Silver Age Marvel books and was bored with DC. That said, Marvel overtook DC in the 70s due to a pricing war and a big increase in the number of titles. DC out sold Marvel all through the 60s, sometimes with 2X the sales on some books Fans probably liked Marvel more, but readers and buyers chose DC.

Dillan was the least talented of all the regular working artists at DC. This is just completely wrong. But you also like Rob Liefeld so not unexpected.

Well they're half way wrong. I’m sure Icctrombone would agree. I would never put Liefeld in the league of the top storytellers like Kirby, Starlin, Romita, Ditko, Byrne, Perez but Dillin tells a bland story and there is no drama in his pages. And I never brought Liefeld in this conversation. I dare say Dillin held the JLA title back from being a great book or even a decent one during the 70's.

Dillin’s OK. I didn’t read JLA in the 1970s, but it sure wasn’t Dick Dillin’s fault.
