I didn't really want to start following another series, but a chance viewing of a few minutes of Lucifer led me to reconsider!
The ongoing theme about Lucifer being changed by his stay among us humans is nothing too original, but the banter is very amusing, Lucifer being very honest about who he is is refreshing and it is great to see the devil cut through many people's bullshit and lies. The main actor is also a big draw, in the way Simon Baker was for the mentalist.
I just hope this doesn't turn into a superhero show in disguise; it might be tempting to go that way if the PTB decide that a nearly all-powerful character isn't interesting. "Oh, no, I've lost my devil powers! I need green Infernite to restore myself, or at least some ancient magical artifact!"

I've been enjoying the show quite a bit.
I didn't go in expecting too much, but have been pleasantly surprised.

So not only did they $%^ it up, but they $%^&ed it up in exactly the same way they $%^&ed up IZombie, by turning it into a police procedural?
So it's not even an original $%^&-up?
Hooray for TV. Sometimes I think "opiate of the masses" is far too kind.

You may want to save the "opiate of the masses" line for mindless reality TV and Fox news and TMZ and such...it looses its meaning and bite when overused...

Watched 2 or 3 episodes. It's not "bad", but it didn't make me care for it at all, not withstanding my affection for the comic characters....

I... can't care about poor adaptations of good comics. I spent all day yesterday flexing and straining but I just can't do it. "Hey, here is a comic with ZOMBIE in the title, like Walking Dead. Let's do an adaptation like Walking Dead except completely ignore both the letter and spirit of the text, exactly like Walking Dead didn't!" Sorry. Can't care. Just can't.

I loved the comic, but I can't bring myself to watch it... that doesn't mean it's not a good show, but Lucifer is NOT a police procedural. It would just feel constantly wrong to me.
Same reason I've never watched Once Upon a Time... it'll be 'Wrong' as compared to Fables.

Oh, hey, they're doing a Precher TV show. That will actually make a really... interesting police procedural. For the first time I am looking forward to a Vertigo TV adaptation.

I enjoyed the sixth episode. Lucifer's decision regarding his wings evoked what happened in Season of Mists. I also liked the way he taunted his brother/colleague about falling as well; I hope that theme will be expanded later in the show.
Detective Douche is turning out to be much more sympathetic than expected, a very surprising (but welcome) development.
Greatly missed in this episode : the little girl and the lady analyst. Their interactions with the devil are often priceless.
I can't compare the show to the comic, as I barely read a few issues of the latter. But as a police procedural with an interesting twist, it's pretty decent. Not in the (original) 19-2 league, but certainly in The Mentalist's one.

Comparing it to the Mentalist (which was really a blatant rip off of Psych, which is a clear parody of Holmes, but without the parody) doesn't win it any points with me.

i enjoy it a lot! I love the comic and I'm really glad that the show doesn't follow the comic so closely because that makes it more interesting. (You don't know what's going to happen next) I'm hoping eventually we'll get to see Michael and maybe the big G-Man himself but even if we don't, It's still cool.

I found the Mentalist to be a lot of fun, mostly because of Simon Baker's portrayal of the main character. A lot of these shows are variations on the same themes and heavily depend on the chemistry the actors bring to the mix; the plots themselves are usually things we've watched hundreds of times.

Oh, bummer.... Lucifer is cancelled by Fox after three seasons, ending on a cliffhanger. There’s a petition going on to try to bring in back (perhaps on Hulu, CW or Netflix) but I’m not particularly hopeful.
It was a good show, much more humorous than other comic book inspired series. It was very silly most of the time, but also charming; and because it made its viewers care about its characters, people like my wife and I would tune in every week.
There are a lot of series on the air nowadays, especially because of streaming services, so I doubt the loss of Lucifer will create a void that needs to be filled. Except, of course, for its too-few devoted followers!
(Now we may never know what God’s plan was... darn!)
