Apparently it was already trending downhill the last few years. Doesn't seem like the spectacle it once was with other yearly events happening showcasing video games now. It's been on the decline for far more than a few years. They had to tone it way down quite a while ago, but it is still pretty significant to see it shutting down.

Played a little bit of Duke Nukem 3D today, felt good. Noticed some weird screen glitches on my Megaton Edition copy of the game, so I took the .grp files and played them on Eduke32 instead. Much nicer experience, even if the game feels a little bit darker in places than it should be

I think I played up to The Birth at some point. Fun game, as much as I love Doom, I still keep coming back to Duke for the sheer personality the game has
There's this guy on Youtube called Civvie 11 who did a pretty good overview/pro-play series of it

Bought Jazz Jackrabbit 2 from GOG, so I've been playing that. What I hate is that the platforming is all over the place compared to the original, but there is a larger view distance when compared to the original, so I'll give it that. *edit* I'm beginning to think that Jazz was not intended for first time players because of his speed and that his brother Spaz is meant for noobies
Also been playing Captain Forever Remix, which is a hard game both in terms of challenge and trying to describe it Basically, you're tasked with building your own ship and destroying other ships so that you can use it's pieces to add on to your own ship. Very hectic, but very fun

Well pretty much every variation of the Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite are sold out on Amazon, looks like I won't be spending my tax return on that I guess :/
Really don't want to take my chances on ebay with scalpers either

Taking a Warframe break. My wife surprised me with buying another copy of Final Fantasy 8 since my disc broke some years back. Retro gaming is costing more and more and I could not justify the costs then. But she bargain hunted and found a used working copy for under $20. Time for some nostalgia.

You ain't kidding, anything Nintendo related is very much in demand and sixth generation consoles (PS2, XBOX, Gamecube, GBA) are getting up there price wise, especially the games. Luckily it's easy to mod those consoles so you don't have to pay exorbitant fees

Awwww you didn't get the remastered version that came out last summer? It's also $20.

I've been loving Animal Crossing, I liked the previous versions but the new one is great.

Been playing some Metroid Zero Mission, Super Mario Advance and Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3
Zero Mission is fun, yet challenging. Was actually the first time I'd ever touched a Metroid game.
Have kind of a personal history with Super Mario Advance. Years ago, my old private school was doing some kind of fundraiser and selling it and a GBA for like $20, which is a steal these days. Got to play it later on in life and in hindsight, it just seems weird that they'd re-release an older game to help launch the GBA
It's also nice that you can save after you beat a level, but you can save anywhere in SMA4, which is a nice addition. I don't know how anybody could have completed these games in one sitting, unless you were an absolute beast at it

Been playing Super Mario Land 2, one of my favorite Gameboy games of all time, specifically the DX hack which makes it fully colorized Gotten close to beating it several times (always get bogged down during the final boss stage), it's really easy compared to other Mario games, so that's probably why. Remember reading about it in a hand-me-down copy of Nintendo Power that I got from my babysitter. Even though I didn't have a gameboy at the time, I was absolutely fascinated by the walk-through Also started Pokemon Fire Red from the beginning again, think I just gave up on Koga and abandoned the game. It's a lot harder than the original, Misty especially. I used to be able to one hit kill her Staryu and Starmie with Pikachu, but the addition of Water Pulse completely levels the playing field. Also managed to snag a Kangaskhan at the Safari Zone, which has never happened ever as near as I can recall. It's usually one of the hardest for me to catch, same with Chansey

I've been loving Animal Crossing, I liked the previous versions but the new one is great. Animal Crossing, like Harvest Moon, is a game that I thought looked good on paper but never really played much of. Doing menial tasks in a game doesn't sound like much fun in concept, but hey, who am I to judge? I played through Chibi-Robo numerous times on Gamecube and absolutely loved the characters, the story, and the gameplay. Such a shame that it goes for insane amount of money now. Remember getting it at a close-out store in a huge bin with maybe thousands of copies of the game for like five/ten bucks Also been watching numerous hour plus long gameplay videos of New Horizons on Youtube, so that's got to count for something, right?

It's definitely mindless, but oddly soothing. I really enjoy not only growing my island, but also just getting lost in the daily routine of managing it and I find I really like interacting with the animals that are my neighbors.

I'd argue that Chibi-Robo is worse though because it literally has you acting as a "Rosie The Robot" style maid for a dysfunctional family. But yeah, once you get into the groove, it can be
