I've been playing Ghost of Tsushima. It's been getting a good bit of praise for the presentation (very deserved), but as someone who isn't good at games, I appreciate the combat mechanics a lot. I feel like I'm actually accomplishing something without button-mashing. I also think it does an excellent job of opening up the world and unlocking skills. If I can't do something, I feel pretty confident that I'll progress to a point (be it via skill or weapon upgrade) where I can pull it off, which is a nice change of pace from the usual wall I hit in games where there's just a big difficulty spike or the game decides "ok if you can't do this yet you shouldn't be playing". I’m liking it for the most part, but that’s mainly due to the samurai aesthetic. Otherwise, it’s basically every Assassin’s Creed/Far Cry game of the last 10 years.

ROcksteady Studios (Developers of the Batman:Arkham series) have announced their new game:
I was disappointed with Arkham Knight, but I'm kinda interested in a Suicide Squad game, so I'll keep an eye on this.

I finished Ghost of Tsushima this weekend, and now I see they're adding some multiplayer elements. I may re-install if there are trophies added (I'm a sucker for trophies), but despite it possibly being my favorite game ever, I'm pretty much satisfied with where I left it.

I do not know how to post YouTubes, but IGN put a 13 minute gameplay trailer for Black Myth: Wukong, which is based on Journey to the West, and it looks pretty cool.

Played a little bit of Fate the other day after seeing it on Steam for a whole 79 cents, fun stuff! For those who don't know, it's a kid-friendly Diablo clone and a precursor to the Torchlight series. It was an included demo on a lot of pcs back in the day and that's how I got a taste for it.

I've been cleaning out my stockpile of old PCs, and the main criterion for keeping or trashing is if a PC could in any way be useful for playing games. Now there's a gaming renaissance here in Cimmeria (my basement):
I was able to piece together a more powerful machine to put in my arcade cabinet, so I can add some 32-bit console-emulated shooters and fighters to that playlist - Project Justice, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Soul Calibur 2. Some day, hopefully next year, I'm going to make a dedicated fighting cab.
I resurrected my mostly-dead racing rig, with the help of the new prescription for my glasses, and the bright idea to use a flashlight. Now I can burn my free time playing Burnout: Paradise, Flatout 2, and rFactor again, and my coolness rating should be restored to its previous heights with the nieces and nephews.
The 24" tube TV sitting in the corner, which I don't even remember where it came from, works fine, and I have a PC to mate it with to make a small (either kid-sized, or maybe bartop) one-player cabinet. I don't need to make it, in the sense that I'm not lacking for gaming stations, but there's a part of me that needs to, because, well, it's all right there just waiting to be put together.
The best news is that I now have Star Wars Battlefront II (the 2005 version) working on three PCs with LAN play. This is my daughter's favorite game to play with me (and also one of my top PC games too), but after some changes a year or two ago, we couldn't get LAN to work anymore. That's been sorted, and now we are taking command posts for the Empire all day long.

Bought NBA 2K21 and THPS 1&2 yesterday. Th new shooting mechanic in 2K may be game-ruiningly terrible. Returning to the early THPS games has not been as smooth for me as others. I remember getting six-figure combos regularly back in the day, yet I've only broken 50,000 for an entire run once in the few hours I've played. Feels like spin has gotten more accurate/sensitive, which causes me to come down sideways a lot. Also, I am used to using the right thumbstick to move the camera in games, and that's really not a thing you want to be doing in these games as the camera stays well centered. Hopefully switching to classic controls alleviates some of the problems and doesn't just remove manuals.

I'm decent at Beat-Em-Ups, but by no means great. The new juggling mechanic is a little hard to get used to, I want to say Viewtiful Joe had one too, but I barely took advantage of it
I also have a fondness for Axl, but from what I've read, he's a poor character to main when compared to Adam who I have yet to unlock

Ah, that's too bad. I didn't have a Genesis growing up, so I didn't play much Streets of Rage. Final Fight was the beat em up I was more used to.

Ah, that's too bad. I didn't have a Genesis growing up, so I didn't play much Streets of Rage. Final Fight was the beat em up I was more used to. All I had for years growing up was the 6-Pak cart that came with my Genesis. It had Sonic The Hedgehog, Streets Of Rage, Golden Axe, Revenge Of Shinobi, Columns, and Super Hang-On. I probably played Sonic the most because I was a young, impressionable child of 6 at the time and loved the nonsensical cartoon show
But Streets Of Rage struck a particular cord with me because of the music, the atmosphere, and the action, it just felt so good to punch and kick baddies into shrieks of non-existence. The weapons felt damn good too and that newsprint ad, *muah* perfection~. I want to frame it and put it on my wall, that's how much I like it.
While I've played final fight, it doesn't spark that same feeling in me. The Sega CD port does however have an awesome soundtrack

THQ Nordic released a remaster of Kingdoms of Amalur. The original is among my favorite games of all time, and I didn't even know the rights had been sold until someone on Twitter posted about the game's release this week. I am having a blast. This game is notoriously easy, which I appreciate as a pathetic gamer. I'm playing on hard (they've added a third extra hard difficulty) and it is still pretty easy.

Oh, man, I remember that ad! Holy nostalgia. And don't get me wrong, I'm sure I would have played a lot of that series if I had a Genesis. I was just on team SNES at the time. And there was nothing wrong with Sonic! I remember how stunningly good the graphics looked on this kid's Genesis playing Sonic compared to my NES. With all the nostalgia craze out there and everything being powerful enough to run basically every retro system flawlessly in upscaled HD these days, I really wish that whoever would work out the rights issues and put out the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games in a modern format. That was a big part of the background of my childhood, and I would be thrilled to play it again with modern convenience. One of these super collections like Contra or Castlevania that has literally all of the variations of the classics on one for about $20. Would be an instant purchase on my PS4.
