Oh, man, I remember that ad! Holy nostalgia. And don't get me wrong, I'm sure I would have played a lot of that series if I had a Genesis. I was just on team SNES at the time. And there was nothing wrong with Sonic! I remember how stunningly good the graphics looked on this kid's Genesis playing Sonic compared to my NES. As I've gotten older, I've kind of become indifferent to Sonic's brand of Platforming because it just doesn't work for me. Jim Sterling probably said it best when he stated that it's kind of running under Pavlov's Dog principals where you have to do a platforming segment then get rewarded with a loop-de-loop or pure speed. Jazz Jackrabbit 1 kind of has a similar problem among others. And I like the SNES well enough (I prefer the NES more though), but most of it's games are slow, methodical, and plodding. The Genesis just has more of the types of titles that I like to play and I don't think that there's anything wrong with that With all the nostalgia craze out there and everything being powerful enough to run basically every retro system flawlessly in upscaled HD these days, I really wish that whoever would work out the rights issues and put out the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games in a modern format. That was a big part of the background of my childhood, and I would be thrilled to play it again with modern convenience. One of these super collections like Contra or Castlevania that has literally all of the variations of the classics on one for about $20. Would be an instant purchase on my PS4. I remember liking the NES TMNT games well enough far as "belt-scrollers" go, but I think that half-assed remaster of Turtles In Time is the closest we're going to get outside of fan projects like TMNT Rescue-Palooza

New trailer for Spider-Man: Miles Morales. I guess the Tinkerer is the villain here. The footage is for PS5, but the game will also be available on PS4.

Lots of cool news from the PS5 reveal. $499 for the regular unit, $399 for the digital-only no disc version. A strong selection of excellent games included with the online sub makes it a lot easier to justify. Both this and the XBOX are going to seriously raise the performance floor for gaming for the first time in quite a while.
This is an exciting time for gaming and a small silver lining in this garbage bin of a year.

I've been playing the heck out of Crusader Kings 3. By far the best realized at drop game that Paradox has put out. Nothing quite as fun as killing your cousin for the throne.

Does it have as steep a learning curve as CK2? Or at least, is it as complex? I assuming being familiar with the predecessor it was easy for you to dive in. I'm interested in the games, but my current life stage doesn't offer the free time or brain power to get up to speed based on CK2.

I'm interested in the games, but my current life stage doesn't offer the free time or brain power to get up to speed based on CK2. If you're familiar with CK2 it's super easy. But I think it plays more easily than CK2 at this point because it doesn't have all the added mechanics from years of DLCs. Paradox is kind of infamous for dropping games and then having to do a ton of work on them (Stellaris, Imperator Rome). This one seems to be very well done out of the box. It's also got probably the best tutorial that I've played on a grand strategy game so that helps. If you were to start I'd advise playing the tutorial and maybe watching a couple of YouTube videos to get an idea about the mechanics. Then play as a Count within a larger Kingdom/Empire for a bit to get the flavor before trying to go for the gusto.

Decided to hook up my Sega Genesis again. Went to go plug in my recently repaired Retro-Bit 6-Button pad (d-pad stopped working so I had to get them to send me a replacement part) and it now doesn't work all together. Luckily they're sending me a replacement controller. I've seen some fairly bad reviews about the company, but damn if they don't have good customer service support!

Bought God Of War and Silent Hill 2 from work today
Nice little brawler that God Of War, didn't get very far
Liked the atmosphere of Silent Hill 2 a lot. I remember briefly watching a playthrough by the Super Best Friends a few years ago and Pat commenting on how "weirdly human but still stiff" sounding the dialogue is. Again, didn't get very far before I died. First time with a survival horror game too given how easily scared I am

Man, Silent Hill 2 is a hell of a first survival horror game if you scare easy. I'm a huge Resident Evil fan, but Silent Hill is messed up...

But I really like the sense of unease in Silent Hill 2. Everything just feels a little "off"
It's not scary so much as unnerving
I also played the original Alone In The Dark growing up. Scared the absolute piss out of me, so did Doom

Like I told adamwarlock2099 , there's nothing more scary than having to live with a single, haunting idea in your own headspace to drive you mad I also love how your life meter is chained to the dualshock 2 controller and you can feel the little throbbing heart beats get stronger and stronger as you're closer to death

I’ve only played the first Silent Hill. And the “children” in the school even with mid 90’s PS1 graphics creep me the hell out. In fact even more so than the ones in the movie. There’s something about Silent Hill games that make them stand out on their own when in comes to survival horror games.

From what I remember you're trapped in your apartment and your only exit is this big hole in the wall that takes you to another dimension
