It looks like most people aren't satisfied with the last Superman movie, so… were they ever?

Superman II by a mile, though I also like Superman and Superman III. Not interested in anything post Christopher Reeve, really.

Superman the movie. No contest for me. Still in my opinion the best super hero / comic book movie to date.

Superman: The Movie by a country mile. Two hours of Superman doing awesome Superman stuff.
This is still my favorite scene from any comic book movie:

The Best Superman Movie is Superman the MovieBest of the Best - I watch that scene that Gene posted 2-3 times a month for sheer joy of it! Best Superman - Christopher Reeve!

I prefer the 1948 Superman serial and the 1950 Atom Man vs. Superman serial to any of the above listed. I don't dislike the Christopher Reeve movies, but I still prefer the serials. Hollywood's first Superman movies.

The first one by a country mile, still one of the finest comic adaptions put to film.
Honorary mention goes to Brandon Routh. I loved his performance as Superman and Clark, I just wish it was in a different film.

I'm shocked....SHOCKED! the full order of finish 1. Superman: The Movie 2. Superman II 3. Superman III 4. Superman Returns 5. Atom Man vs. Superman serial 6. Superman and the Mole Man ("The All-Time Ace of Action's first full length feature adventure!" the poster says) 7. Superman: The Movie Serial 8. Man of Steel 9. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace Batman vs. Superman has no business being called a Superman movie.

Superman I is the perfect origin story, as well as a beautiful film on its own right. The only thing holding it back from perfection is the tacked on obligatory plot that comes in the final quarter of the film. Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor was an interesting choice, but it did not fit the tone of the film.

Superman Returns is probably the most boring movie I ever attempted to watch. I'd rather watch snail racing.
