I bought (and still have) that one, the Alan Moore one, and the Neil Gaiman one.

Don't know if this was a jab but in Superman 126 there was a story titled The Two Faces of Superman in which Supes disguised himself as Alfred E. Newman. This was in 1959 long before MAD and DC Comics were owned by the same company. It was reprinted in Superman Annual #3. www.comics.org/issue/16334/cover/4/

And you're right, seems less a jab than a playful acknowledgement.

The Spawn thing seems kind of pointless. What exactly was Sim trying to say - that superheroes are dumb? Like Spawn is any less dumb?

He was on a big kick against corporate-owned characters at the time.

Ima say the one between Wolverine and the one getting zapped is Thor (the lil wings are looking a little droopy on his helmet though).

I saw that too and I have been thinking about it for some time and I say this is poor taste on the part of DC Comics using Marvel Characters and having the Hyperclan killing them. To me, this is a low point in that comic book and I still have it.

Check out this from Not Brand Echh #4 (Nov, 1967): (Beastly Boy and Positive Dan are the only names mentioned, I think. Even Mento gets into the act.

Did the Lampoon do any other parody issues of MAD? I know about the 'Dave Berg' article('Wow! You really ARE an ******!'), but not sure which one it came from originally.

The "Lighter Side" spoof you mention appeared in that issue of the Lampoon. It's unlikely (though not impossible) that they did any further parodies on this scale since, as they say, "Once is parody, twice is infringement."
