WHO WANTS TO JOIN ME?! Now, that I've gotten a job and (GASP) a driver's license, acquiring comics is much easier! I've decided to make an adventure of it. On top of seeking specific comics out, I'm going to try something new. I'm going pick up blind grab bags of comics and reveal what I've obtained! Today, I bought two packs, to really kick-off my adventure. Side Note: If I've anything wrong, please, correct me! Here goes! The Packages before opening: Off to a good start. Cloak and Dagger are top ten favorites. And, I believe that's Snapdragon? And, Diamondback, but I could be getting her mixed up with Black Canary like I used to. (Don't shoot!) I opened the Cloak and Dagger pack first (no surprise). Cloak and Dagger #19 from August 1991 and Captain America #386 from June 1991. Not bad. The second two in this set of four was The New Defenders with Angel on the cover and Peter Parker the Spectacular Spider-Man The Return of Cloak and Dagger EEK! <3 Two Cloaks and Daggers! The New Defenders # 127 from January 1984 and Peter Parker the Spectacular Spider-Man: The Return of Cloak and Dagger from August 1982. Neat! I opened the second pack to reveal...Captain America: The Superia Stratagem Parts ONE and TWO?! Now, I need to locate parts three through six! Captain America: The Superia Stratagem Part One of Six #387 from Early July of 1991 and Captain America: The Superia Stratagem Part Two of Six #388 from Late July of 1991 Third comic in this set is Avengers West Coast with ooooh the Grim Reaper <3 Avengers: West Coast: The Reaper and the Robot Part One #65 from December 1990 And, finally a HUGE surprise! The Amazing Spider-Man..WITH OBAMA?! I remember this being a big deal! This one says its a Collector's Edition and comes sealed with two packs of trading cards. The Amazing Spider-Man #583? Fourth Printing Variant. Original in 1999.

WOW!
First off, yeah. I remember the big deal surrounding the Obama book. But even putting that aside, this is a truly impressive assortment of comics. I last saw comic grab bags at Dollar General last year, but they were all true dollar bin fodder - largely Image books from the early 1990s. I would love to find comic packs like these. What an incredibly fun way to build a collection!
Love the idea for this thread and can't see what you post next.

I have the full run of New Defenders, fun series.
Now I'm curious if my local WalMart has these grab bags...

I missed those bags of comics and this is pretty cool collection and I just wanted to say this - in my area bag of comics started in the mid-80's to the end of the 90's and after that they stopped doing these things. This is amazing Yip Yip!

Bagged comic assortments have been around since at least the 1970s, largely pioneered by Whitman Publishing, I believe. I was buying them in the late 1980s, as that's when I was an adolescent.

And, wait, DG had these? I mean, yeah I know you just said they were fodder, but still! Neat! I checked my other local Walmarts. They all seem to have them in the trading card section, so maybe try there! The cards in most Walmarts are up by the registers, for those that don't collect. I'm gonna pick up another later this week, and post them maybe Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday! This is fun! I've also decided that when they run out, if they do, I'll take my friends to my local comic shops or Second and Charles and get them to randomly select comics from the large bins. That way it's still a Blind Grab Bag of sorts.

I love the X-Men and all the branch offs. Glad to know it's fun!! You should check! All my local Walmarts seem to have them! I'm curious if ones from other states have them, too.

These all seem to be from the 80's and 90's so far. And, thank you!

My LCS has a twenty cent bin, for example, and there are a few true gems in there that I only hold off on buying because I am overly obsessed with owning complete runs and can't just pick up sporadic issues on the fly.

Most definitely. Around here, they're not sorted by prices. They're sorted by what they are. So, you will find a 50 cent comic next to a $50 comic. I don't think I could quite afford to randomly grab that one. O.O I like owning complete sets, too, but I know if I own one from a set, I'll obsessively hunt for the rest. I'm like that with my books. I will find them and complete this set. And it will look good on my shelves and I will be happ about it. lol

Ooh, that's neat! I didn't know what at all!! What type of comics were you finding in those packs? The ones I picked up in the 1980s were for sale at Toys R Us. You would usually get three comics, all featuring the same character or following the same basic theme, and you could easily see the top book, and could usually make out what the third book was, but the middle book was always the mystery. I obtained most of my Batman issues between the #380s and #430s through these packs. Some were second printings though, and some had Whitman on the indica, but not the cover. The traditional Whitman issues were weird because they were technically not reprints, but the publisher on the cover was Whitman as opposed to DC or whatever company. I came around too late for the Whitman packs, but I own a few Whitman back issues today, especially of Superman. An example:
