Are there many male/ female friendships that don't get romantic? Maybe Sgt. Rock and Mlle. Marie? I might be misremembering, but I thought they were romantic. In fact, I think it was either heavily implied or outright stated that she bore him a son at the end of the war, but he died before meeting the child. Or something. Either that or I had too many shrooms. I think you are right, but I should have added to that previous post that I meant the "pre-post-modern" Rock. I think back in the 60s he and all the other DC war heroes had crushes on Mlle, Marie, but I can't recall anything too serious. Later (80s, maybe?), Marie was revealed to have been Alfred's lover. Alfred. This is what happens when the neighbor's cat gets into your sandbox.

What about the Thing and the Human Torch, notably in Strange Tales?Yep, and I know those ST stories weren't the greatest but I enjoyed those stories--liked their bantering and their Hoss-Little Joe-type relationship. And how about Beast and Iceman, buddies in the Silver Age X-Men days--going on double dates, frequenting cafes to listen to beatnik poets, etc. Later, in the 70s, it was Angel and Iceman who became the doube act for awhile, while Beast started hanging out with Wonder Man.

Clint Barton. (Heh! Heh!) It's Kate Bishop, who adopted the name when she "replaced. the then-dead Barton in the pages of Young Avengers. When Clint came back, he let her keep the name and became Ronin for a while; when he later became Hawkeye again it was agreed that there would simply be two Hawkeyes. Kind of a Marvel version of Miss Arrowette. So much has happened since Hawkeye became Goliath! the first time or the second time? (Clint briefly resumed his Goliath identity in the 1990s, during Operation Galactic Storm)

Black Jack Tarr and Clive Reston(?) Shang Chi and Black Jack Tarr seemed to become particular buddies within the larger MoKF group after a while. Once upon a time we might have said the Black Widow and Ivan: that almost was or could have been a Blaise/Garvin kind of partnership but I believe I read somewhere that Marvel messed it up trying to be "edgy", is that right? That's an understatement...Ivan was revealed to have had a lifelong obsession with the Widow, and eventually turned himself into some kind of cyborg nightmare which she was forced to kill to stop him from starting a nuclear war because she didn't love him.

Then for some reason he gave up that identity and resumed life as a costumed archer, but began running around in something out of a Greek frieze around #100, and then at some point must have been getting chilly fighting crime in a skirt and straps and went back to the original get-up.

I think he got the Greek look outfit in #98 and he was back in his original costume by #109.

I think I don't want to read comics anymore.

The trio of Oracle, Black Canary, and Huntress (Helena Bertenelli) was a well done buddy comics style series in the early to late 2000's by Gail Simone.
