You know, I've been recently thinking that I haven't re-read any of The 'Nam in quite awhile. Yeah, you should do. I think the first 40 issues or so -- the ones written by Murray -- are really great. The stories are so readable and the characters are ever so engaging. The 'Nam really is one of Marvel's most underrated titles from the '80s.

Instead of creating a new thread with the same topic, I thought I'd just bump up the thread. That way the newer CCF members post-July 16, 2016 can add and share their thoughts on the subject. And previous CCF members can add as well. Thanks everyone.

I didn't know Alan Moore wrote in the Supreme series. For some reason I just thought Supreme was by Liefeld and was written like a super violent version of Superman. How did Alan Moore's Supreme stories come across? I am sure he must have approached it as a "Superman"-type of series, but what was his approach like?

I didn't know Alan Moore wrote in the Supreme series. For some reason I just thought Supreme was by Liefeld and was written like a super violent version of Superman. How did Alan Moore's Supreme stories come across? I am sure he must have approached it as a "Superman"-type of series, but what was his approach like? Moore rebooted Liefeld s Supreme and replaced the guy with a Silver Age Superman proxy artwork and all. Though set in the modern era, Moore peppered Supreme s backstory with multiple flashbacks done in the style of DC circa 1960 by way of Rick Veitch s retro looking art. Imagine an Alan Moore Superman run circa 1996 had DC not rebooted continuity with Crisis. I believe his run lasted some 20 issues or so and was graced with the sort of rich backstory you d usually only get with a character who had been around for decades. As for how Liefeld s Supreme could be reconciled with Moore s, Moore introduced the concept of The Supremacy, a limbo world a character created in the Golden Age would get sent to every time his history, look, personality, etc was reset. So, just as the Superman of 1938 who could leap but not fly and had no moral code against killing for example was soon replaced with a kinder, gentler Superman, who was eventually replaced by another iteration of the character, so too was Supreme purported to have experienced multiple tweaks throughout his history. Each of those tweaks got shunted to The Supremacy where I believe Liefeld s version got sent to and 1960 s Silver Age Supreme returned. I should also note that while Moore is unquestionably a brilliant writer, a lot of his 80 s superhero stuff was fairly mean spirited towards the source material. The Moore who wrote Supreme however, wrote without that bite and edge and the series benefits greatly from this approach.

Can I ask you who were the other writers on Wonder Woman and the writers on Doctor Strange that were in the running on your decision? Thanks.

For Wonder Woman, George Perez and Dan Mishkin were both in the running. I also considered Denny O'Neil, but he only wrote three or four issues before turning it over to Sekowsky.
With Doctor Strange, there are several runs that are all neck and neck for me. The initial Ditko/Lee run is probably the best objectively, but I just have a slight soft sport for Gillis. I would also put Englehart and Stern up there very, very close. It's not really ranked 1-4, but more 1a, 1b, 1c, and 1d.

Byrne's FF is probably my #1. I've reread it many times and it never fails to provide a great sense of wonder.
Miller's Daredevil Simonson's Thor (re-reading now in omnibus) Claremont's X-Men (particularly with Byrne through Smith) Morrison's Doom Patrol Mantlo's Hulk

As in wanted more? I liked David Michelinie's Iron man and Avengers. Chris Claremont's Spider-Woman. Jim Starlin's Warlock.
Honorable mentions to: Gerry Conway's Firestorm. Mary Jo Duffy's Power Man & Iron Fist.
