As in wanted more? I liked David Michelinie's Iron man and Avengers. Chris Claremont's Spider-Woman. Jim Starlin's Warlock. Honorable mentions to: Gerry Conway's Firestorm. Mary Jo Duffy's Power Man & Iron Fist.Hi Beccabear67 can I ask you what about MJ Duffy's PM & IF appealed to you as a reader as I am not familiar with the entire series except for a couple of issues in the initial run?

I liked it when Kerry Gammill was drawing it best and she was writing. She started around #56 or 57 (which had the X-Men guest star) I think. The characters were very well written, the two title guys and Misty Knight and Colleen Wing. I'm sure Claremont set a lot of things up, but I don't have many of those issues to know (really just Iron Fist #14 & 15). There was always a little humor between the two pairs of characters alongside the drama and relationships.

Gerry Conway on JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA(pencils by Dick Dillin, George Perez, Don Heck, Chuck Patton, among others). From about the time Zatanna joined, followed not long after by Firestorm, and particularly under the editorship of its former writer, Len Wein, the League was at what I consider a high point...up til about 1983, when DC began making some significant changes to many of its books:Superman and Lois broke up; Ray Palmer took an interesting detour in South America; Flash went on trial for murder; and, in a particularly busy year, Batman met 'the good, original, non-jerkhead' Jason Todd just as Dick Grayson was aging out of the 'Teen Wonder' demographic; and, in an unrelated development, Bats told the JLA what they could do with their 'policy of non-involvement in world affairs', and put together the A-Team, er, Outsiders, to rescue his friend from Markovia. Conway actually 'left' the League...for two whole issues....just as that last development was playing out in the new 'BATO' title(by Mike W. Barr), but before Conway could be missed, he was back...unfortunately co-plotting that stupid Roy Thomas-scripted retcon of Black Canary. Conway would be back in the scripting saddle for the 'Beast Men'(marking the end of Wein's run as editor), and then under Alan Gold, the 'Fiatlux', and 'Earth-Mars War'trilogies...along with the further deconstruction of the team, resulting in the 'Detroit League'. Unlike most people, I actually admit to liking the 1984 version of the JLA; for me, the book didn't go downhill until Aquaman left, and the team returned to the (yawn) original cave headquarters. Too many of the most powerful(and popular) members 'had' to be written out, due to demands of various editors. By mid-1986, Alan Gold was out as editor...and Conway, due to lingering frustration with both Gold and replacement Andy Helfer, resigned after # 255, in the middle of a convoluted saga that would (once J.M. DeMatteis came aboard to finish it) write Zatanna out of the book. Conway, who had also done an outstanding job on 'The Fury of Firestorm, concurrent with his JLA run, ultimately left DC altogether. But, at least he'd had a memorable run presiding over the last years of greatness for the bronze Age Justice League.

Good call! I actually love that entire series and am working on getting it all. Artist Steve Leialoha had some input into the stories I think as I recognized various elements from his real life situation in the comics... Trina's white persian cat and all! San Francisco is a great location too for a detective/superhero comic anyway... I think #25, 34-46 with Leialoha art would make a great collection/trade paperback.

Steve Gerber was the best writer on:
Defenders Man-Thing Howard the Duck Tales of the Zombie Omega the Unknown ...
It would probably be easier for me to list the few series he wrote where his run wasn't my favourite - Daredevil and Mister Miracle are the only ones that come to mind right now (and they were both still good) but I'm sure there must have been others.

X-men by Claremont/Cockrum/Byrne/Austin FF by Byrne Thor by Simonson Iron Man by Michelinie/Layton Daredevil by McKenzie (initially)/Miller/Janson (New) Teen Titans by Wolfman/Perez/Tanghal Legion of Superheroes by Levitz (with several art teams, but mainly Giffen & Mahlstadt) JLA by Conway (with a number of artists, up to somewhere just after the JSA/All Star Squadron crossover) Hulk by Mantlo and (mainly) Sal Buscema All Star Squadron by Thomas (mainly with Buckler and then Ordway) Captain America by Stern/Byrne/Rubinstein Defenders - agree that Gerber's run is the best, although I like the whole initial run from the Marvel Feature stories through to issue #50 (also agree with berkley about the other series written by Gerber). Swamp-Thing by Alan Moore Black Panther in Jungle Action, by Don McGregor with Rich Buckler and then Billy Graham on art. Killraven by McGregor and P. Craig Russell Avengers and Spider-man: can't really pick an absolute favorite for either; there's just too many runs on both titles I've liked from the 1960s and into the early 1980s, although I'll give a special shout-out to Roger Stern's runs on both.
