can't stand now. For me, it is Captain America. Back in the day(the 70's), Cap was my guy. I read his comics and played him whenever my friends and I would have our super hero battles. I used a garbage can lid as my shield. I would say that I LOVED Cap. But, time changes you..the wistful days of youth are now a memory and so these days, maybe it is due to pessimism or the destruction of idealism, but I really can't stand the character any more. Even when I watched Avengers, I just don't care for him. Perhaps I see him as being too perfect in his views..too moral..a bit pretentious. I don't know, but I honestly can't stand 'ol Cap any longer. Where's that dark side? Anyhow, that's just me. What about other people out there? Which character(s) can you no longer stand?

Back in the '90s, I was pretty obsessed with Jim Valentino's Shadowhawk. I haven't gone back to re-read it, but everything I remember loving about it then seems pretty stupid now.

I liked Deadpool in X-Force, his two mini series and Joe Kelly/Gail Simone's ongoing. But not even having read anything from newer stuff, but what Marvel is doing with him now, from other media (Ultimate Spiderman Deadpool video game) and scans I've read online he seems like an insufferable annoyance.
X-Men in general. I loved the 90's cartoon and one of the reasons I got into comics. But after Age of Apocalypse I found my interest in X-Men go to zero. I even tried stuff as old as Claremont's fabled run, and pretty much meh overall. There's a few stories I like that I've kept and I like the Brood a lot. But overall I can't get into X-Men. However, the individual characters I can, when they star in either solo story lines or minis and specials.

Easy, I used to love Booster Gold and now I just can't stand him and because he's a such a goofy character and having him team up with Blue Beetle a character who I love the most and now I just can't pick up a decent old Booster Gold and Blue Beetle Comic Book anymore and that's a real shame.
I just stand him anymore!

Spider-Man was the first real super-hero comic I bought on a regular basis, starting in the mid-80's, but I lost interest around issue #375 or so. I tried to get back into it when Straczyinski was writing the title but found it wasn't to my liking, and when stories like Norman and Gwen's kids and the dissolution of Peter and MJ's marriage came, I just gave up on ever getting back into it. My local library gets a few comics every month, and I started reading the most-recent ASM, but he's just Tony Stark Jr. at this point. I also used to love the X-Men, but I haven't really been into them in a number of years now. Too many bad stories and too many stupid things happening in those titles just sucked my love for them right out. can't stand now. For me, it is Captain America. Curious as to what you mean by "too moral"?

Cap has just been revealed to be an agent of Hydra and apparently murdered Jack Flag! And now we know who to blame...

Most of what I have is around the first Brood appearance so that was around the early 80's if I remember correctly. I had no idea that he was on it until the 90's since I picked up new Uncanny X-Men closer to 94 or so and it was Scott Lobdell.

Most notably Batman, who post Dark knight has become increasingly unpleasant. The whole 'bat god' thing of make him near-omnipotent rather than simply being the world's greatest detective also puts me off.
There are also a host of Marvel characters who were violent when they first appeared, but the violence was considered an anomoly; then they transitioned into being the standard and I lost interest: Wolvering and Punisher being the best examples.

I don't know, but I honestly can't stand 'ol Cap any longer. I've loved Cap since I was a child and continue to do so to this very day, but I can certainly see why people would dislike him for the same reasons that a lot of people dislike Superman Yes, Cap is a highly moral person, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't clash with authority. He represents the defiant resiliancy of America itself, not what it's become X-Men in general. I loved the 90's cartoon and one of the reasons I got into comics. Agreed, I liked and enjoyed the 90's cartoon like a lot of others did I'm sure, but never found the comic itterations all that engrossing. Thankfully though, X-Men was so popular that it inspired a lot of copycat books that took what the series did and really made it it's own (Elementals, Harbinger) Nightcrawler and Gambit are my two favorite X-men, Gambit because I grew up in New Orleans and Nightcrawler because even though he's a mutant, like Beast, he's more of a mutant than most. Half the reason why I enjoyed Excalibur was because of Nightcrawler

'92 was 24 years ago, more than half a lifetime ago for me (and I just turned 47) so yes the Claremont run is old. -M (now get off my lawn)

The first off the top of my head would be the Avengers.
I used to love them, like most did, pre-Bendis.
Now, anyone that's not a mutant is pretty much an Avenger !
Someday they'll get it right again, but it hasn't been for a long time.
When a publisher distorts the concept too much, or its just too crappy for too long, eventually you just don't care anymore, like X-Men. Great concept, but I could care less anymore.

Well, when I was 13 (now 38) I thought Cable and Shatterstar were cool. Now I couldn't care less for either character. It's funny how time changes you. I used to think that he Legion of Superheroes and Martian Manhunter were lame, but now I have a respect for them.

Half the reason why I enjoyed Excalibur was because of Nightcrawler I did enjoy Elementals, but I never read Harbinger. Troublemakers was pretty good, but I don't know if it's a team book or a 90's Runaways or another teen movie in comic book form, from what I remember. Wolverine's first 49 issues were great for the character. I didn't like the #50's reveal, but there still continued to be some good stories. Same with the lead up story to #100. I think I read through the 130's or so before I stopped. But along the way there were some good one or two issue stories despite the direction Marvel wanted Wolverine to go, to stay in tandem with the X-titles. I really like Nightcrawler myself too. But I have not read much of Excalibur at all. Maybe that's something I should rectify.
