By the way, Into The Dalek and Dark Water were my 2 favourite episodes this season. Not surprisingly, they feature the Doctor's 2 best known foes. 3 best known foes, really...

I've never watched Doctor Who before now, but I have been catching Season 7 on BBC America, and I have to say that I am quickly falling in love with the show. Dinosaurs on a Spaceship was brilliant, and The Angels Take Manhattan was both exhilarating and heartbreaking at the same time.
Luckily for me, that station is showing a whole lot of Doctor Who starting tomorrow, and my DVR will be running an awful lot as I am recording about 30 episodes or so. Can't wait to get further in!

Yeah: Space channel here has been running a bunch of Doctor Who reruns leading up to the Xmas special. I've DVR'd a few faves.

A comic with the 9th doctor, Rose, and Captain Jack??? That sounds fantastic! I've found the regular series pretty blah so far.

"Last Christmas" Not a a great episode but it was a bit fun and whimsical. I usually get annoyed by the dream inside of dream plots but this didn't bother me. While there were a lot of laughs in the first half I thought the dream crabs were pretty creepy for a Christmas episode. Nick Frost is quite good as Santa. Funny that they managed to work the Slade song 'Merry Xmas Everybody' into yet another Christmas special and Shona dancing to it was pretty funny. Nice reference to Alien and the Facehuggers. Glad to see Danny Pink return if only in Clara's dream. I enjoyed Natalie Gumede and Faye Marsay and wouldn't mind either of them returning as regular companions. Wasn't expecting Clara to wake up as an old woman. The moment where the Doctor puts the party hat on her head and sees her young again was kind of touching.

I got into Doctor Who thanks to the Christmas marathon last year. And,yeah, Angels Take Manhattan was devestating.

I'm only reading Eleventh Doctor right now, and it's pretty disappointing. I'll probably stick with it a little longer, but the comic in the magazine was much much better. Kinda wish they'd just re-print those in monthlies. I saw Torchwood before seeing him on Doctor Who and going from the tone of the Eleventh Doctor to Torchwood was so jarring I can't stand Captain Jack.

Sorry to say, but I am not enjoying the Capaldi Dr. Who. He and Clara do not seem to be jelling well together. I think he and Danny Pink work better together. The Robin Hood episode was best of the lot so far, that is where you see the Dr. and Danny work together the best.
I loved Tennant, enjoyed Smith, but Capaldi is not thrilling me at all. Did not like the Christmas episode at all.

I'm a big fan of Capaldi and thought the chemistry between him and Coleman (Clara) was quite good after a rocky beginning - their slightly antagonistic relationship a welcome change from the recently over-used Doctor-Companion romance.
The Clara/Mr. Pink romance was neither here nor there, for me. Danny Pink was fine, the actor was likeable, but the whole thing felt to me like something introduced purely to give Clara someone other than the Doctor to be romantically involved with, as if it was taken for granted that she had to have a romance of some kind with someone - IOW, that this is the only kind of story you can tell about a young female character.
But the next to last episode went a long way towards ruining not only that chemistry but the entire season for me with Clara written as an utterly selfish person totally caught up in her own emotions, hysterically demanding that the Doctor allow entire universes to be destroyed in order to satisfy her personal desires. Up to that point her Clara had been a high point of the show, for me, but after that turn I'm not sure I want the character to return at all.
So yeah, I didn't like the writing much this year either, though for the most part the rest of the year was neither particularly good or bad. I agree that the Robin Hood episode, which I had been expecting to be pretty dire, turned out to be surprisingly fun - I think largely because of the interplay amongst the Doctor, Robin Hood, and Clara.

I agree regarding the writing, I was wrong regarding Danny in the Robin Hood episode forgot he was not there, it was The Caretaker episode that the Doctor and Danny had some fun parts. The writing seems to be leaving holes and angles hanging.
