Series 9 Episode 1 "The Magician's Apprentice" Excellent start to the season I thought the atmosphere was eerie, there were some genuinely funny bits and some interesting visuals. The Handmine field during the intro was really creepy looking as was Davros' servant Colony Sarff. It was also nice to see the returns of The Maldovarium, the Shadow Proclamation and the Shadow Architect, the Sisterhood of Karn and Missy. Peter Capaldi appearing playing electric guitar on a tank was one of the coolest moments ever. The scene where Colony Sarff transforms into a bunch of snakes was pretty crazy. The reveal that Bors from "The Doctor's Meditation" was a Dalek puppet came as a complete surprise. Seeing Clara and Missy work together in an uneasy alliance was certainly interesting. Loved the use of the classic Doctor clips especially "Unlimited rice pudding!" Great reveal that the space station was actually on the planet Skaro. That was one hell of a cliffhanger! Really looking forward to next week and will probably rewatch this a few times.

Wow....
Seriously, that was one hell of an ending.
And the black and white scenes for the next episode? I can't wait.

Huh... I hadn't watched for a while, and was super disappointed in this episode.. it's just too much. It felt like it was heading to massive time travel retcon silliness that was going to confuse and annoy me.
Also, I really just don't like either Capaldi or Coleman that much.

I wasn't disappointed, but . . . let's go with underwhelmed. I like Capaldi and Missy, so their character bits were fun. (Coleman's worn out her welcome w/me, though.) But there seemed to be a lot of build-up; did we really need to jump through all those hoops to get Missy and Clara together? The main ethical dilemma is interesting; hope they don't timey wimey their way out of it. Still, looking forward to the conclusion, hopeful that it'll all pay off.

I really doubt they're going to retcon to much about Davros or the Daleks.

The Doctor Dances and the Empty Child are two of the best episodes in my mind. I also like the Family of Blood, 1967's Tomb of the Cybermen, 1975's Genesis of the Daleks, 2006's Girl in the Fire Place and 1964's the Aztecs.

I though the first episode of the new series was okay, but nothing stand out (to me). However, I have come to expect this as the big season openers and closers are never my favourite stories. They always feel too big and too full of 'timey-wimey' stuff, and that the writer (almost always Moffet) wants me to be knocked out by the sheer scope of things. I tend to like the the less 'epic' stories that make up the rest of season. For instance, my favourite episodes in the previous season were "Mummy on the Orient Express" and "Robot of Sherwood".

I liked that one way better, it had a unique concept and I really liked Danny Pink's character beats and the little girl who found the Doctor was great.
