Love it! It may not "count" as it's a Children In Need special, but as far as I'm concerned that's totally how they got their plunger arm.

A day late, but I just thought I'd draw attention to the fact that yesterday was actually the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who. I was a little too busy to do anything yesterday, but today I'll be watching the newly re-edited and colourised version of the original Dalek serial in celebration.

So after watching the 3rd part of the reunion of David Tennant and Catherine Tate, here's my thought on the conclusion: {Spoiler: Click to show} The show's producers wanted to have their cake and eat it too! Keeps the door open on the ever popular Tennant/Tate combo, but still gives the new actor his space. It's all moot without good writing though, so we'll see.

I think the Fourteenth Doctor specials are the best the show has been in a while. I only started watching the Doctor Who revival during Capaldi's first season. I like that season, and I really enjoyed when I went back and watched the Ninth, Tenth, and Eleventh Doctors. But the rest of Capaldi's seasons and the Whittaker era were underwhelming. We got too much lecturing, preachy stuff in lieu of good storytelling. We also got a lot of way too big stakes without concrete grounding. Also, both Whittaker and Capaldi had a too exposition without interspersed action (not just like explosions, but even physical movement) to make the episodes flow well.
I feel like these episodes have reversed those trends. We got stories with comprehensible stakes. There was still political correctness parceled out in these (and I say this as a liberal), but not in such dollops to bog down the story. The chemistry between Tennant and Tate (especially in the second and third specials) was a reminder of how well certain combos make for great storytelling. I like that there were also horror elements.
Since the third special just premiered and everyone else is using spoiler tags, I'll just say the end of third special is intriguing. I'm wondering whether there are specific follow-up plans with the big twist or if it was more about achieving a certain tone and leaving possibilities without any specific plan.

I agree, and part way through Capaldi is where I checked out until now. Nice overall summary as well, agree on all points, including the same question on where it goes from here.

A trailer for Doctor Who's 60th Anniversary Specials next year aired on BBC1 on Christmas Day, and while most of the mainstream audience have been talking ever since about the impending return of the tenth Doctor and Donna Noble, a select few of us were much more excited by the glimpses we were given of the upcoming villains. It seems that 43 years after their creation in the pages of Marvel UK's Doctor Who Weekly comic, none other than cuddly psychopath Beep the Meep and his arch foes the Wrarth Warriors are finally making their TV debut! What's more, while the Meep himself admittedly looks more like Baby Yoda from what little we've seen, the Warriors actually look 100% comics accurate! I actually can't remember when I was last this excited by Doctor Who... I have read the Doctor Who Weekly comic, but I noticed the first special credited the story to Pat Mills and Dave Gibbons. It turns out that "The Star Beast" featuring Beep the Meep was actually the first British comics serial reprinting the US Marvel Doctor Who series.

I've watched The Star Beast so far, which is the first reunion episode....it was ok, a few cringe-worthy lines, like when Rose started to beeyotch about Beep the Meep's gender (leave that out of Doctor Who please). Hardly surprised though, seeing Disney in the credits....
Rose also looked much older than 15....
I'll check out the follow up episode which aired Dec 2 next....I need to see Daleks, Cybermen or Weeping Angels to be a really happy girl....
PS Tennant's best episode remains *Blink* imo....

I doubt the "you're assuming pronouns" line is a result of Disney co-producing the series now. Doctor Who has been on the "let's do 'representation matters' in a really clumsy way" train for a while.

This ☝️ A Stephen Moffat episode IIRC “Blink” is a great episode, but is it really a David Tennant episode, when Sally Sparrow and the Weeping Angels are the main characters? For my money, “Human Nature” and “Family of Blood” are the best David Tennant episodes, both written by Paul Cornell.

I’ll add my favorite Tennant episode, “Silence in the Library” (Moffat).
