I have a big love for the B to D lister characters over the A-listers.
DC: Freedom Fighters, Sea Devils, Cave Carson, Challengers of the Unknown, The Spectre, The Squire, Aztek, Young All-Stars, all those crazy 60s space characters, Adam Strange, SSOV, Primal Force, Azareal, Cyba-rats, Scare Tatics, Major Bummer. Hell, the 90s had a ton of them...

Adam Strange: i went insane trying to find his stuff back in the day as his series was over and he guest starred everywhere it would seem. Challengers of the Unknown was always great fun. So glad to have the Showcase black and white reprint of all that Kirby wild goodness that i never saw except for the occasional old torn up issue i might find in a yard sale or thrift store. Not finding much on either of these series made me love what i did find all the more!

sniff..they're ALL "A-Listers" to me.
but my top 5 characters? only 1 would really meet that A-list determination:
1) Metal Men 2) Firestorm 3) Poison Ivy 4) Wonder Woman 5) Shadow Lass (LSH)

Is Skull the slayer considered B-list? (He's a favourite, but more of a C-lister... )

These are the ones that come to mind the quickest.
Marvel: Cloak & Dagger, Longshot, Balder (love what Walt Simonson was doing with him in the 80's), Prowler, Speedball, Deathshead (original), D-Man, Starfox DC: Dr. Midnite, The Phantom Stranger, The Spectre, Sandman (Golden Age hero)

I have always generally preferred the less well known characters to the big names: my favourite DC heroes, for instance, are te Golden Age Flash, Green Lantern and Hawkman, the original Freedom Fighters, Commander Steel, Red Tornado and Kamandi. Among my favourites at Marvel are Nighthawk of the Defenders, the Vision, the Angel, Scarlet Witch and Hellcat. And then, of course, there's Captain Britain...but I can't really put him in here because as far as I'm concerned, he's 'A' list...

I'm not sure if Doctor Strange and the Silver Surfer are B-list, but I suppose they are if some still view Daredevil as being B-list! They'll never be B-list to me. That said, I always had a fondness for them, every bit as much as I did for Spider-Man and Wolverine as a kid (though the Hulk will always be my favorite). There is just something about extremely powerful, isolated heroes that are nonetheless altruistic that appeals to me.

Calling Death's Head 'B' list? Hrmm. Believe in living dangerously, yes? He was in America at least. I would imagine Death's Head II was too being that he was mostly in MarvelUK and I don't even remember how I even came across him, but enjoyed both the mini and the short ongoing series and other apperances. I think only have one actual Death's Head comic and I'm pretty sure, it's because the cover sells itself.

sniff..they're ALL "A-Listers" to me. Best answer. I love them all as well Mostly true but lets get real, there are some who are C or D list and shall remain ever thus. Captain Ultra? The Baboon? The Kangaroo? Rocket Racer? The Ringer? Space Cabbie? Infectious Lass? B'Wana Beast? MA Hunkle Red Tornado? Pied Piper? Just a few also ran's. There are plenty who overcame their lower tier status and those who were A list and dropped and then recovered. Some smart few embrace their underdog aspect and that makes them all the more wonderful. But truthfully each and every character if loved by a reader makes them an A-List character and special in our hearts.

Thinking upon it and looking back, it feels like Ditko is/was the king of creating B list heroes. Outside of Spidey's success, most all of his creations have the underdog or that beaten upon struggling to rise above it all sense of duty and feeling. The Creeper, Hawk and Dove, Blue Beetle, The Question, Captain Atom, Mr. A., Speedball. All of these have a quirky innate uniqueness that places them closer to my heart than many of the big time hero's ever have.
