Very different approaches by Harry Anderson on the original, Larry Leiber on the reprint in the 70's.

I think it's odd because a bear and loose bats have nothing to do with the team up. Yup, that's what I was getting at. It's like a modern cover, where it's just a cool pin-up that's got nothing to do with the story inside.

I doubt anyone can create a suitable replacement for a Neal Adams cover. The reprint lacks the realism and drama as only Adams could capture it.

Ugh. By the time the early 70s arrived, rich dye work was a thing of the past, thus a lot of mood was lost on covers. This can be seen on several Marvel reprint titles such as the second Fantasy Masterpieces, Marvel Triple/ Super Action and Marvel Tales. Comics lost something special when things started to look as flat (color wise) as a Harvey comic.

Hmm. I think I like the reprint better.

It seems that Starlin always does the covers to his reprint volumes.

i love Staton. even in DC stuff he drew women with natural curves rather than fashion-parade mannequins with silicone 'blown up like a balloon bits'.
