That's awesome. I wonder why commissioned it. Love that Simon and Kirby are given prominent attention on the plaque.

Of course, even though the statue says "I'm just a kid from Brooklyn" Steve Rogers, according to his original introductory stories, grew up in Manhattan's lower east side. That's the neighborhood that Jack Kirby did the same. There's been some local newspaper articles regarding the statue that also point this out

There's also a group petitioning to have the statue removed because they feel it doesn't belong in that park and interferes with the natural beauty of the setting, and their petition is supposedly getting a lot of traction, so the Cap statue may cause as much of a sh*tstorm as Sam Cap and Hydra Cap did.

My brother told me that he read that the complainers said that a real soldier should have a statue instead of a fictional one.
I bet that they want a real Alice instead of the Wonderland one in Central Park NYC.

As you can see, it does not claim that Alice is from Manhattan

Iccy, maybe you and I should start a campaign for a Spider-Man statue in Forest Hills, a Dr. Strange in Greenwich Village, a Luke Cage in Harlem, a Daredevil in Hell's Kitchen and a Thing for Yancy Street

I wish they'd given him his real costume instead of one of the movie versions.
Cei-U! I summon the sellout!

My brother told me that he read that the complainers said that a real soldier should have a statue instead of a fictional one. I bet that they want a real Alice instead of the Wonderland one in Central Park NYC. I'm guessing the fact that Sherlock Holmes has a statue and was inducted into a real world hall-of-fame for detectives would really irk these people.
