I was a little disappointed in Nightwing, I much prefer it when Dick's adventures are light and fun like Morrison's run on Batman and Robin or Grayson. I would have given it a 7/10 except the portrayal of Dick with Damian has been spot on when they appear together. I wish DC would put the two of them together again as a team.

Yeah, when done right that relationship is a lot of fun to see, that was the only part of the Rebirth issue I enjoyed but it just wasn't enough to get me to come back for another try.

Enjoyed the reviews of Superman and Supergirl. I would have rated the latest issue a high 9. Superman seemed more like Superman--full of hope, positivity, and someone the world can look up to. I love the dynamic between Superman and his son. When I was a little boy, I looked up to my own father in a way that mirrors Jon--this larger than life character that I aspired to be like. Now that I am grown, I am still in awe of my dad. Superman's scenes with Lois and Jon are touching and tender. It's nice to see the most powerful man in the world with his family--and passing on the values taught him by the Kents. I am ready, however, to see Lois back in action (and she was pretty cool in the bat-armor). I want to see her back at the Planet, not taking any guff off anyone and doing her own thing (as a reporter). It will be interesting to see how this all plays out with the new 52 Lois as Superwoman and the mysterious Clark Kent around proclaiming he is not Superman. With the Rebirth Superman titles, I finally feel like I am truly reading Superman stories again.
Supergirl has my interest for now. I understand they are trying to capture the feel of the show with the DEO and Danvers as her "parents". I did think the writer did a good job of capturing Kara's teen angst--not fitting in to the hilt! The art is growing on me. Looking forward to see how Kara does at her new school and her interactions with Cat Grant. Not a bad start to the new Supergirl title. I'd give it a solid 7.
*For other fans of Superman, he appears in Aquaman this week as well. I enjoyed the story, even though I really wasn't sure what was going on. Purchased it mainly to see what Superman was doing there.

Aquaman #6 (DC)
Script: Dan Abnett. Art: Brad Walker & Andrew Hennessey. The Conclusion of The Drowning. Basically the USA is at war with Atlantis. Mera & Aquaman are on the run trying to figure out what is happening & trying to stop the war. The US government sends Superman to try & get Aquaman to stop Atlantis. Superman ends up trusting Aquaman to make the situation right. Obviously this new organization NEMO is manipulating events to cause chaos. Manta kills the leader of NEMO & is now in control. Of course we have the usual misunderstanding & Superman, Aquaman & Mera fight. I really like Abnett's writing here & on Titans. He "gets" the characters voices. I don't think this is the greatest Aquaman story but it is one of the better ones. I did like how Aquaman "vented" about being the black sheep of the JLA. The art is OK. I am not crazy with this style of art. I like Briones style more. Although there was a great scene where Aquaman told the Atlantean military to stand down. Score: 4/5 script. 3/5 art. 7/10 overall.

Purchased it mainly to see what Superman was doing there. I loved that sense of optimism too, it was a breath of fresh air in a Superman book too and I'd love to see Lois' role grow as well. I think the only element that kept me from rating it higher was that the art seemed stronger than the plot. It's not a terrible negative as the art is beautiful but it would be better if the two parts were equal.

For me it was a pretty good week. I really liked Superman, the Flinstones, Jughead & Daredevil. Nightwing & Aquaman were entertaining. I was disappointed with Batman & Green Arrow.

Green Arrow #6 (DC)Script: Ben Percy. Art: Stephen Bryne. This issue shifts it's focus to Emiko. And I feel like it was a bit of a mess. This run of GA has been all over the place for me. I understand Percy is trying to restore the iconic version of Oliver but has gone about it in a chaotic way. I think his ideas are good he needs a co-writer to pace the story better & form it into a more cohesive arc. A new Clock King makes his debut. However the art has been great. This is the 3rd artist & all of them have been awesome. I really struggled with reviewing this book. This book & Batman are on the chopping block for me. Score: 2/5 script. 4/5 art. Total: 6/10.

Giant Days #18Written by John Allison Penciled by Max Sarin Colored by Whitney Cogar Inked by Liz Fleming Summary: The end of the freshman year comes to a close and so too do the plots and schemes of the girls as they reflect on what the summer and next year will bring.
Plot: For me the major selling point of this series is the excellent ensemble cast that John Allison has created and the fun, manic wit he brings to their interactions and that was on full display in this issue. Rather than a more concise progression driven plot like we had seen in previous issues, which left me feeling more than a little dissatisfied this issue was comprised almost like a series of loosely interconnected vignettes that gave time to Daisy, Esther, Ed, Susan and the rest to breath on their own. It could have came off as drab and disconnected but the sort of central theme of the last days of school managed to tie them together nicely.
Art: While I'm not the biggest fan of Max's art style( I tend to find the expressions she gives the characters to be a little too oversimplified) she does know how to get a lot out of gestures and body language. In this issue in particular there is scene with a dance and each character has their own unique pose that really fits them.
Conclusion: It's kind of funny to get a book about the end of the school year and the start of summer at the start of school and the end of summer but timing aside the issue is a great way to wrap up the story while providing a teasing glimpse of what is to come.
Grade: 8/10

Invincible Iron Man #13 (Marvel)Script: Brian Michael Bendis. Art: Mike Deodato. I am a big Iron Man fan. I am not a fan of BMB's style of writing. So I picked up this series with some hesitation. I enjoyed the first several issues because I thought Bendis captured Tony's sarcasm well. However I decided to drop the title a few issues ago until I found out this volume would end with #14. So I decided to finish this volume. Last issue was all set up for Riri to be the next Iron Man. This issue begins the process that will lead to Doom being the other Iron Man. I have zero interest in either scenario. All the stuff that had me interested (like MJ being hired) has been pushed to the back burner. On top of that this issue was all a "talking heads" issue. UGH! The one bright spot is the art. Deodato has come along way from the 90's when he was an Image clone. Score: 1/5 story. 4/5 art. Total: 5/10.

I can't quite make it out, who did the cover on that? It almost looks like Francavilla but I can make out the signature just well enough to see it isn't him.

I mean a lot of what I like about that cover is in the inking and coloring but still I wouldn't have guessed that was him. Was the interior art as good as the cover?

I don't have the issue you reviewed here yet (DCBS).. but I know where you guys are coming from.. I really disliked how Dick was made to look inferior to a third rater like Raptor. If they're trying to establish a support cast, fine, but you can't do it at the expense of the main character! My main issue, though, is having him in ANOTHER undercover situation.. that's so not Dick Grayson. I'm hoping after these first two arcs (he seems to get sucked into a Bat-cross over next) they let him connect more to the Titans the the Bat family.
