Looking back at the CBR archives, I see my "join date" was May 2004, so that must have been right after the forums got wiped in the Great Disaster.
And I've been thinking someone here needs to revive the "Guess the Classic Cover" game. That's one of the things I've missed the most in recent years of the board. Any volunteers?

It was a great game, but it's a lot of work! Perhaps we could have a new round where the winner puts up the next mystery cover. That would mean Red Oak Kid and Infobroker would do all the work!!!

Many Christmases ago, the dread tyrant Cei-U! charged us to come with our favorite writer/artist pairs. And you went with a stretching-the-rules choice of Kurt Busiek and Scott McCloud and promised a discussion enlightening the effect to which their friendship has influenced each others careers. But then you got busy with life and things and didn't finish filling out the Christmas entries. That's my vague recollection of years back. I have waited eagerly ever since to be regaled with tales of Busiek and McCloud. I've read what each has to say in introductions to various collections of each others' work, but you seem like a guy who knows more detail. And I would love to hear your take on the topic. I think this was from 2009. I have moved this up my priority list. My plan was to embellished printed public comments by them, with comments they made publicly at the three major comic conventions I attended in 1992-1994, and then project my viewpoint on creative collaboration and how deceptive those credit boxes on the splash pages can be. But yea, I'll get a post up here within the next couple of days. -jb the creativity is spongy ib -

I joined CBR Classics about the same time as Shaxper in 2006, and of the early Classic regulars which I recall as already already "up and at it" there was/is: Cei-U Dan B. Slam Bradley Red Oak Kid Lone Ranger Infobroker TGuy Cherokee Jack Zilch Roquefort Raider Bill Angus berk MDG Kan-Man Mike Kuypers Aaron King Aaron Kashton Spoon Jenkins Scratchie Graham Vingoe (?) Michiko S. There are also great posters like Chris N., Foxley and Jolly Mon who I think were here before me, but I'm not certain Some of those guys have sort of retired from the board now, and I know I am forgetting others (forgive me others, and chime in) I just checked and I guess I was around slightly before you (under my original nom de plume, Jolly Mon) since July 2005. I hadn't realized it had been that long, almost 9 years. I had guessed about 4 or 5 years.

You can use your old nick/pass there. It's phantasmagoric, like being on a town the day after. You may find a few users logged in, and can even talk with them via PM.

I came to the CBR boards when Scott Shaw! started his Oddball Comics column. Anyone know when that was? From his board, I eventually started reading the Classics Board. I think the first time I posted (on the Classics Board) was when I finally took a look at the GTCC thread, and knew what the answer was (Sgt. Fury Annual # 2.) I also posted on some other boards, but can't remember which ones. I had a running battle going with a guy named JeeB. Don't know why I (or JeeB) wasn't banned.
And has anyone tried to notify Scott Shaw!? He was an infrequent poster on the CC Board.

Scott! is a member of the FB page I created that points the way here so, yep, he's notified.
Cei-U! I summon the early warning system!

I agree with you both. That was a very special part of Classic Comics, and was lots of spirited fun. I'm not sure, and I know there is no official "patent of ownership" on the thing, but it seems to me its pretty much Lone Ranger's baby. He might not care, or might graciously give his permission, but it does seem like still his game. I don't even know how it's done. Do you need photoshop?

Whatever image editing program came on your computer should work fine for the purposes of the game.

It's kind of telling that the "RIP Dick Ayers" thread on the CBR Classics & Collected board did not get a single reply.
