I have several favorites, hard to pick just one! *Teen Titans (more of a fan of the 1966-78 team than the 80s version) *Satellite era Justice League of America *All-Star Squadron *Defenders *The Champions-a short-lived 70s Marvel team with an interesting mix of team members *Legion of Super Heroes (Cockrum, Grell, and then the Levitz/Giffen era) X-Men: Claremont and Paul Smith era

Ernie (Chua) Chan probably drew every DC & Marvel character for a cover in the 70's & 80's.

...and the Ani-Men aka the Unholy Three/Trio The Unholy Three would undoubtedly be my favourite Marvel villain team, were it not for the sheer, barking mad brilliance of the Headmen.

Power Pack I was around their age when this came out. It was the first Marvel comic that I picked out on my own. I could relate to the sibling dynamics, which is something that was also an important part of my life. I still like it. (P.S. My first, now deleted post was a hurried mess and it wasn't really an appropriate response to the initial question, "what is your favorite team and why", not an aimless list, which I'm prone to indulge in, sorry. That is not a condemanation of or slight against the other answers in this thread. I was actually afraid to admit it, even though I put the Louise Simonson / June Brigman Power Pack on my top 5 favorite runs here a little while back, above all other team books.) No need to apologize for your choice. I've always been intrigued by Power Pack but have only read them as guest-stars in old 80's Marvel comics. Part of the reason I think I'm intrigued with the characters is because it seems to be common for creators to admit that they don't like writing or even drawing children. This makes me want to see the concept succeed. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening anytime soon given the mindset of most modern creators.

In theory, the Defenders should be my favorite team, since it features three of my five favorite Marvel heroes (Dr. Strange, the Hulk and the Surfer), but I've still only read a handful of issues from the original series so I don't feel I can choose them yet. It bugs me because I've read the vast majority of issues of The Incredible Hulk from 1962 to 1996...I suppose it would have to be a tie between the Lee/Kirby/Byrne FF and the Claremont/Cockrum/Byrne/Smith X-Men. Those are certainly the "best" team books I've read.
That said, I'll always have a fondness for Byrne's Alpha Flight. I think the characters are vastly underrated and I think Byrne's run was groundbreaking as far as mainstream superhero titles go. They were a team that virtually never worked as a team! The first half of the run was more like a collection of solo vignettes. I still find Aurora, Northstar, Snowbird, Puck, Shaman, Talisman and Sasquatch endlessly fascinating characters with untapped potential. I also liked that the series was based mostly in rural Canada; it was a nice change of pace from the typical NYC setting. It baffles me that Byrne doesn't think more highly of them. Character for character, I like them just as much as the X-Men who they were apparently created to fight.

This is extremely tough! I love team books! It comes down to the X-Men, Avengers, and Legion of Super-Heroes. All the stuff that's happened in the X-Universe over the past 33 years has left a bad taste in my mouth, so it's down to the Avengers and the Legion of Super-Heroes. I love the Avengers roll call, and they've had some fantastic stories and a lot of great artists, but I think I'll place my vote for the Legion of Super-Heroes. I love the huge roster, I love the mixture of sci-fi and superhero genres, I love the fact that it's populated by a lot of beautiful young people with almost as many females as males. Plus it's had its own share of great artists and writers working on it. My main complaint is the lack of alien looking members, especially in the earlier days. So, this is my list: 1) Legion of Super-Heroes 2) Avengers 3) X-Men 4) All-Star Squadron 5) Micronauts 6) Teen Titans 7) JLA 8) JSA 9) Fantastic Four 10) Defenders
I also loved the Freedom Fighters, Inhumans, and Eternals, but it's tough to put them in my top ten with the lack of a long running title.

My favorite group of supervillains is probably the Secret Society of Supervillains.
