But would you agree that he (Bernthal) mostly negates everyting that made Ennis' Punisher great (Ennis probably almost being the only thing that made Punisher great for most of us)? I’ve only read one issue of Ennis’s Punisher, but I agree that what I read there was very different from what we saw on TV. Oh, agreed! I doubt the Punisher from the comics would work on TV. It’s a similar thing with the yellow spandex Wolverine: that would just look silly as a live action show.

BAck to Cage, has anyone got through the 2nd series? I'm 3 or 4 episodes in, and like the 1st series I'm really finding it a struggle to get up enough enthusiasm to continue to invest the time to watch it - I just don't find it particularly engaging and it's glacially slow-moving

As far as super-hero shows go, it was enjoyable, provided the required action and character development, and was worth the time spent watching it. Bushmaster was a really nice character. He started out pretty one-dimensional, but ended up gaining our sympathy. Ditto for shades. I’m also curious to see how far the show will go with Cage as the new crime boss of Harlem (shades of Daredevil taking the Kingpin’s place during Bendis’s tenure). Hopefully our man Luke will resist the temptation to a use his power! I also wonder if Claire’s consoiscuous absence at the end means Rosario Dawson wants to do something else. I hope this isn’t permanent.
I salute these Netflix series, which are much better than most super-hero movies seen on the larger screen.

Oops! I apologize, Simon. I was careless with that one.

I greatly enjoyed this season myself. I had no trouble getting through it; each episode had something that made me curious for the next one. I adored Bushmaster and I thought the actor who played Anansi was also very good. Plus, this time I thought they gave Mike Colter a lot more interesting stuff to do; in the first season, I felt Cage was being upstaged by supporting characters and antagonists who were more intriguing than him, but this season he could stand toe-to-toe with them and he had a more gripping emotional arc. Awesome season, and the music was top notch yet again.

I enjoyed the second season far more than the first, which had a strong first half, but lost the plot halfway through. In the second season all characters have their own goals and methods, allowing for alliances to easily change and it keeps things a lot more interesting.

I started watching Season 1 a while back but never finished it (shortly after I began, Netflix got Supernatural Season #13 and I watched that, then summer happened). It was OK (Luke Cage, that is), but I didn't find it compelling.
While I wanted to go back and finish it and then maybe watch S2, I recently started watching Arrow from the beginning and am pretty invested in that, so it might be a while before I return to this show.

Rewatched the 2nd to get back into the swing, and watched the third and it's just not grabbing me at all - this might be the first one of the Marvel/Netflix series that I give up on and don't finish (probably followed by not even starting Iron Fist 2)

And announced yesterday, the series is cancelled; there won't be a season 3.

A real pity. I guess there are far more important things to be saddened about, but I would have liked to get more of that show.
Ah, well... it's not the first good show to be cancelled. At least we got a proper conclusion of sorts.

At least we got a proper conclusion of sorts. Well between this and Iron Fist, one getting good ratings and good reception and the other not, but both being cancelled within days of each other, it makes me think something is up with the Marvel/Netflix deal. Either cutting back of content leading towards the end of the deal, or Marvel wanting to try other properties to see what will work and taking back some properties for other venues. It was easy to write off the Iron Fist cancellation as one being based on reception and performance of the show and nothing more, but Cage was well received and got much better ratings than Fist and still got the axe. I wait to see what happens with DD season 4 (3 just dropped), Jessica Jones season 3, and if the planned Punisher season 2 actually happens. -M

They wrapped up filming 3 months ago. But after that...who knows. That might be the end of the whole “Netflix MCU”.

I think part of the problem with Cage has been the way he's been portrayed on screen - his schtick is basically to stand there and let people attack him (by hand, shooting, etc) and then minimally respond to take out the attacker. It demonstrates his impervious nature, but it's boring - it's the same problem that invulnerable Superman has - if nothing can hurt him, where's the drama?
Both Cage series have made the conscious decision to incorporate extended musical pieces in the Harlem club, and I think they really hurt the flow of the show as well, it just feels like padding to me. And specific to the 2nd series - even as someone who is reasonably familiar with Jamaican rhythm of speech and common elements of the patois, I found the speech of the yardies really hard to follow - I hate to think what someone would make of it, if they'd never heard a broad Jamaican accent before
