What a freaking stressful and bizarre year this has been so far, and we’re only a quarter of the way in. Agreed. Also feel incredibly bad for the high schoolers who won't get a graduation this year or they might do it later, who knows? That's interesting - is high school graduation a big thing in the US? I don't remember anything special happening when I finished back in the 70s. I don't think there was a ceremony or anything like that.

They also do smaller graduations for Elementary to Middle School which I was a part of as well

School graduations are a BIG DEAL for many here in the USA. Being the eldest grandchild in our family (of 5 siblings with each having 3 to 5 children on my mom's side and 2 siblings with 3 boys on my dads side) I was actually the very 1st in any of my family to ever graduate from Junior High (grades 6, 7, 8) in 1976 and High School in 1980. So ALL of the family were at my graduation's and any of my brothers or cousins who graduated. Sadly, out of 16 grandchildren there was only 10 of us who graduated from Junior High and 6 from High School. So yes, it is a rather bid thing for lots of folks.
And for Junior High the school held a Prom Dance the weekend before graduation and then the Ceremony itself was held the following Friday Night with a full catered dinner buffet. High School also had a Senior's Prom Dance, a school Honors Ceremony recognizing that 4 of us graduated with Top scores in Arizona State (yes, I was one of the 4, #3 actually) that year and also a school partially funded 4 day Graduation package which was of a trip to California for a day at Disneyland, a day tour at Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum and an an overnight dance party/beach luau barbecue on Catalina Island.

Yeah high school graduation is a big deal. Senior year can be fun. At least when I was a teen there was a lot of leeway for seniors. Rules were relaxed. In fact the summer after graduation was probably the best time in my life. Minimal responsibilities. Lots of spending money from job and graduation gifts. Fast forward to graduation from college... Reality hit then. Debt. Being on my own. Lots of responsibility. Being an adult.

Y'know, this whole self-quarantining thing would be no big deal for me (I'm practically a recluse even under the best conditions) if it weren't for one thing: the pain in my legs. I had to quit taking the medication my doctor prescribed a few weeks ago because the side effects turned out to be worse than the original problem (it caused my limbs to jerk uncontrollably), and since then the pain has continued to grow in both severity and duration. Right now it feels like my entire leg between knee and ankle is on fire. Luckily, it's only the right leg because when they both go off it's agonizing. I can't focus, work has become next to impossible (*any* kind of work, which is why my posts here and on Facebook have dwindled to a trickle), and the only reason I'm not completely exhausted is because I take a sleeping pill before bed. I've tried contacting my doctor but the clinic is basically closed down and my condition isn't severe enough to warrant a trip to the emergency room (not to mention that taking the bus is a nightmare scenario during this pandemic) so I guess I'm just going to have to tough it out. Oh well, thanks for letting me vent.
Cei-U! I summon the extreme frustration!

I'm so sorry, Kurt. I'll send you a copy of Avengers: the crossing. It's so painful to read that it will make you forget about your current pain.

It may seem silly, but have you ever tried meditation Kurt ? I would also recommend acupuncture (post-quarantine of course).

Hey, learning to self-administer acupuncture might be a good quarantine activity! Seriously, though, much sympathy for your situation, Kurt. I have not yet reached the level of boredom where recreationally stabbing myself repeatedly in the leg with a needle is appealing yet, but if this quarantine last much longer ask me in a few months. JK, seriously though, I have heard acupuncture can be quite helpful for some people in some cases. Sorry for your situation, Kurt.

Cei-U!, very sorry to hear this. Vent away. That's one reason we're here. Is there any kind of visiting nurse or home health aide service you might call for help? I hope this pain somehow subsides. It's so easy to give advice in cases like this, and all the words in the world really don't help, but I'll try by saying that your presence will be missed here. If it's any comfort in your painful moments, please remember that you are a vital part of so many lives here. Earth-Kurt is not an easy place to live; I applaud your courage. I only wish there were a way we could cross over during this crisis and give you a hand, amigo. I summon the frustration.

The hospital I work in has such a low census of patients (my departments have 3 floors closed and the wound clinic only open 3 days of the week now) and has asked all Exempt employee's (basically Administration/Director/Managers) to take 1 day off a week to rest and prepare for the possibility of worse days over the next month if the Virus hits harder. Since I have plenty of PTO my Director asked if I would mind taking a day off each week for the next month. I said fine and thanks for the rest.
Taking it all a day at a time here but Arizona hasn't been hit as hard and to the depths of the large coastal cities. We keep awaiting the possible sudden onset, but with everyone self isolating and the city closing up all non-essential businesses things are rather slow and quiet (knock on wood) in comparison to places like Los Angeles and New York. What tomorrow or next week will deliver, only God may know.

So, I spoke to my sister today and it seems that my brother-in-law (who's been suffering from the symptoms of coronavirus for over a week) felt better today. He even managed to go for a short walk. Hopefully this is him turning the corner on the road to recovery. Fingers crossed.
In other news, my wife and I got talking about the old role-playing games that I used to play in my teens and early 20s. She's never played any RPGs before, but she's into amateur dramatics and found the idea of staying in-character as you play a "theatre of the mind" type game interesting.
I told her that one of my favourite games back in the day was Call of Cthulhu, which is a game set in the fictional world of H.P. Lovecraft's stories. She likes horror novels and films, and thought that the 1920s setting was interesting, so tonight we both created characters for the game (luckily I kept my CoC rule books, unlike all my other RPG stuff, which got donated to charity shops over the years). At some point this weekend we're gonna have a go at playing the classic introductory CoC adventure "The Haunting", which is great for first time players. I'll be GM'ing and also playing the character I created tonight more or less as an NPC.
I'm really excited at the prospect of doing some role-playing again. It'll be the first time in about 23 years.

I've always wanted to play table-top RPGs, but kind of came from one of those households that thought that D&D was strictly for satanists. FASA's Battletech kind of caught my attention after playing Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries at a young age. The problem is that I'm kind of have nobody to play with. Shadowrun and Vampire The Masquerade look fun as well
