Thank God you're OK, Kurt! That sounds incredibly scary to have to go through.
Glad you're on the mend, and please don't overdo it trying to get back to "normal" too quickly. Your health is WAY more important than us clowns here.

Praise God that you have recovered, Cei-U!. Not a slight to shax but I was bummed that you weren't leading the charge on the CCC each day. To quote Paul Henreid in the film Casablanca- " Welcome back to the fight, And this time I know our side will win ".

Glad to hear you're doing better now Cei-U!. Diverticulitis is no joke. I had a perforated colon because of it in 2002, and was hours away from dying of toxic shock from all the toxins leaking out of my colon through the perforation when I got to the ER and finally had the pain I had been suffering for two days correctly diagnosed (urgent care had been useless thinking it was either gas pains or appendicitis even though the pain was on the wrong side of my abdomen for it to be my appendix). Had to have a temporary ostomy done while the repaired colon healed and had it reversed 4 months later, so my recovery process was rather long. I haven't had any other incidents since then, but did have to radically alter my diet to avoid certain types of foods to manage the condition. Hopefully your recovery will be shorter and you won't have any other issues from it. -M

Geez, Kurt, that sounds scary. I'm really happy that the problem was caught and handled on time and that you're getting better. That's a reason to be grateful that our society tends to take for granted: we now live in a world where such problems can be identified and treated rapidly. Our ancestors could do little more than worry and watch their loved ones die. Whenever I hear someone speak of the "evils" of modern medicine, I have to urge myself not to do anything reprehensible.

Whenever I hear someone speak of the "evils" of modern medicine, I have to urge myself not to do anything reprehensible. My mother was one of the first people saved by penicillin in the late '40s, so I wouldn't be here myself but for a medicine advancing. Mind you I once realized that my parents would probably not have met if there'd been no Hitler... so I guess my being around cuts both ways good and bad. My Dad and his mother left Holland after the war for her to join a new Dutch-Canadian sharp shooter husband in Ontario, and eventually they moved west for a job at a creamery out here where Dad met Mom at the rock & roll dances.

Geez, Kurt, don't scare us like that again. So glad you're recovering. What's important is to take the time you need to heal. Kick back, read some good comics, and relax.

Glad to hear you're OK and on the mend, Kurt. That sounds really unpleasant and bloody scary. Take all the time you need, but we have all missed you here and look forward to your return.

After 19 months, five applications, four phone screens, one onsite interview (pre-COVID), and three online interviews, I have FINALLY gotten a job with this great local company that is 15 minutes and 8 miles down the road from my house. It's a lateral move (same work, same position title, and a whopping .5% raise, although their 401K match is considerably better, making it more like a 3.5% raise), but the future prospects with this company, both for potential promotions (my new manager said he could see me moving into something at a higher level within a couple of years) and security (my current company is going through all kinds of issues and isn't long for this world), are fantastic.
Almost every local person that I've told about my switch has said one of two things, either: 1. "I know someone who works there and they say it's a GREAT company to work for.", or; 2. "I've used them when I worked for Company X, and they're a great company to deal with."
Just to highlight the differences between the two is something completely small and stupid. I accepted their offer on the 9th, got the thumbs-up for my start date on the 17th, and yesterday (on the 19th), there was a box in my mail that included a company-logo facemask, a Christmas tree ornament, and a bag of candy, along with a note from my manager and the department director (who I've interviewed with three times) telling me how excited they are that I'm coming on board, while in five years at my current employer, I've never gotten ANYTHING for Christmas.
Really looking forward to January 4, as that is when I start the next (and hopefully final) chapter in my professional career.

Hi, gang! I know the ever-discrete shax hinted at the reason for my recent absence, but now that I'm back, I thought I'd give you the straight skinny. A week ago last Tuesday, I was rushed to the emergency room, where I came uncomfortably close to bleeding to death. I won't bore you with all the gorey details, but the upshot was that a diverticulode (sp?) on the outer wall of my colon had ruptured, causing my blood pressure to drop precipitously. I was hospitalized for four days, during which I was given a blood transfusion and an emergency colonoscopy. I'm okay now, just dog tired and will probably remain so for another week. I'll be picking up the slack on Classic Comics Christmas tomorrow, but it may be a few more days before I add my entries to Days One through Six. Many thanks to shax for carrying the extra load! Cei-U! I summon the interrupted festivities! Hey man, glad you're ok.
