I guess there are complaints about my posts as political and they are reported. I dunno guys... 'put down like swine' and 'shot like animals' is okay but I'm 'not nuetral' enough in my tone? If that's what you want, I'm not comfortable. Have 'fun' with the extreme psycho fantasy guns and muscles type fans, not my kind of comics or comicsfans.

Basically if there's going to be report button 'wars' I'm done. I'm not pushing the button, I've done it maybe twice in three years? I say get rid of the people who do, yet who are usually the ones posting needlessly extreme junk. I'm not into to having to be ever more careful around folks who never even try to be. Sorry.

All right, since we seem to have a situation escalating without cause...
You may remember that we used to have a political thread, which while enjoyed by many (me included) led to repeated flame wars, bruised feelings and lost members. We eventually locked it for good, and advised our members to avoid stealthily restarting it in other threads.
From time to time, a post that's politically touchy pops up, and in the interest of maintaining the board's harmony, we mods respectfully ask that it be edited or taken down. If the situation persists, we resort to friendly warnings long before any kind of disciplinary measure is taken. This system has worked well for years, and makes of this community a rather civilized oasis in the jungle that is the internet.
We understand how upsetting the current political landscape is. We live in it too, and we also have very strong feelings about it, but this is not the place to discuss it. We've tried having constructive discussions about politics here and have lost far too many friends in the process. When a mod politely asks someone to edit or to remove a post, it is done out of concern for the health of this community and for no other reason.
If anyone has a question about how the mods do their job, it would be much better to PM us directly rather than indulge in public speculations that may cause crises where none exist.
Please remember that moderating a board is a thankless and unpaid job, which we do as fairly as we can. *Nobody* wants to be put in a position where they have to tell a fellow poster "you can't say that!" and when we do it, it's really with the community's best interest in mind.

Hey beccabear67, I do hope you will reconsider. I've not been shy in the past that I've been pretty frustrated at times with how heavy-handed the moderation can be regarding anything political here, especially in the "off-topic" general community threads with how intertwined politics are with literally everything this year. That said, I've come to realize and appreciate that the mod team does have a point here. The rest of the internet is a cesspool for anything anyone could want to discuss, but it's nice to not have to think about it here for a few minutes. I'd like to be able to discuss some of that with some of the folks here, but if the management isn't interested in hosting that here, so be it. The rest of the oasis is well worth having. Rather than bailing all together, maybe take a week off to do other things and come back after things have cooled down? It'd be a shame to lose your wealth of musical history knowledge here over politics. Hang in there. 2020 is almost behind us! |
