Well we finally had our Christmas morning today, and it was a total blast. By the way, best haul I've ever personally had! Apparently, my amazing girlfriend snuck a few suggestions to the North Pole.

This was a hard Christmas for me. Since my ex and I cannot play nice, I decided not to try to do something together this time around and to let her have my girls for Christmas since it fell out on her days with the kids (we share 50/50 custody) and then give them a second Christmas when I get them back on Monday. It's a little weird watching the world wind down from Christmas when mine hasn't started yet. Just catching up here and saw this. Sorry that you had to go through this, but it was probably for the best that you didn't try to force something with your ex and ruin the day for your girls. Knowing you as I do, I'm sure what you planned for them on Monday was AWESOME. Sadly, I'm going through the same sort of thing, just on the other end. My sister and I have vowed to never put our parents in the same room with one another unless it's for one of my girls' weddings or one of them is room temperature, so we have to coordinate two holidays (at least the major ones). Due to COVID and my mom being locked down at her residence (if she left for anything non-medical related between 12/23 and 1/3, she had to subject herself to a 14-day quarantine, so she spent Christmas alone (as she did for Thanksgiving), while my dad got to come and celebrate with us. We did FaceTime with my mom so she could see the girls, but we were only on for like 30 minutes, and then I went to see her the next day for about an hour (she's only allowed 1 guest per day right now). Going forward, not sure what we're going to do about birthdays and the lesser holidays, but it's going to be a mess and someone is going to be hurt no matter how we handle it. Hang in there, my friend. This is a season, and it shall eventually pass.

I owned that X-Men board game for 20 years and never played it once. Got it when it came out and finally got ride of it in 2012/2013. I was tempted to paint the figures that came with it like I used to with gaming minis, but never got around to it. That Buck Rogers book is amazing. I was turned on to it about 3-4 years ago on the Pod Stallions podcast, and tracked down a copy. Really great sample of Buck Rogers strips over the years. -M

I know there’s a no politics rule, and no plans for a politics thread, so please don’t consider this a “stealth politics” post, but over the last couple of days, I am reminded of how restrictive such a rule is, despite my respect for the rule.
There’s been some Space Force news. A lot of it. I want to post about it, but it is SO intertwined with a particular administration, that I feel it’d be impossible to share full and frank thoughts about Space Force without mentioning a particular president.
Also, there have been rumours that 2021 will see the blue party (US) challenge WWE over it designating wrestlers as ‘independent contractors’. I had a lot to say about that in the wrestling thread, but if politics is banned, then that’d be another topic not allowed even though it’ll potentially be a big story that every wrestling newsletter, and media outlets, will cover.
I’m not seeking to change the rules. But 2020 truly was the year where politics and life were intertwined. How do you discuss the pandemic without mentioning countries’ responses to it? Space Force is intertwined with a particular soon-to-be-gone administration, how do you discuss it without mentioning politics? How on earth could one ignore potentially the biggest wrestling story of 2021 because of a no politics rule?
It is what it is, and I follow the rules of a place I am in, but as the years progress, it’s getting harder to see a separation between politics and life.

I don't judge others for what they choose to do, but I would have done anything to keep my ex and I together, not because I wanted her around, but because I couldn't imagine having to do this to our kids for the rest of our lives. I still hate that we will spend the rest of my natural life having to debate over who gets the kids when for the holidays and negotiating special events that should be joyful celebrations like weddings and graduations. Divorce sucks. I ended up with a far happier life, of course, but I still HATE being a divorced parent.

Is that the cover of Parable on a t-shirt? It sure is! She had it custom made. How many other Americans have a Moebius t-shirt??

[/quote] She actually got me two horror record sets, but neither contain Lights Out. I did, on the other hand, get to hear Orson Welles as Dracula for the first time.

It is what it is, and I follow the rules of a place I am in, but as the years progress, it’s getting harder to see a separation between politics and life. Oh, I get it. I think we all get it. This is why we used to have an open policy. And when members started fighting each other over politics, we created a politics thread and asked folks to confine the discussion there. And when members fought even worse and some even left the forum, we started watching that thread more carefully, posting more in-thread warnings and sending more friendly warnings to members. And when the fighting still got worse and even more members started leaving, we shut down the politics thread. For the millionth time, no one wants this restriction (the mods least of all). It was necessary to preserve the health of this community.
