I can't say whether it was actually a "good" game, but as I was a 12 or so year old comic book nerd obsessed with the X-Men in particular, I sure enjoyed it at the time. We're playing it right now. Simplistic, but it captures the spirit of the comic surprisingly well. Most importantly, my kids love it. I just may make X-men readers of them yet!

Happy New Year all. The change to 2021 is going to be symbolic at first, but hopefully eventually life will get back to what we considered to be normal again.

Between getting older and all the upheaval 2020 brought I find myself drawn more and more to the past in things that bring me comfort and joy. Whether it is old comics, old TV shows or just remembering old vacations and holiday celebrations. Part of it has to do with my Mom and her Alzheimer's. She remembers the past better than recent events.

Whether it is old comics, old TV shows or just remembering old vacations and holiday celebrations. Part of it has to do with my Mom and her Alzheimer's. She remembers the past better than recent events. I know this feeling very well, my friend. My mom can't remember what she had for breakfast today, but she can tell us all about her high school experiences, which is nice. On New Year's Day, my sister and I poured over our maternal grandmother's photo albums, getting to see people and events that we either haven't seen in years (she took A LOT of photos of us as little kids) or that we didn't even know existed (there is a photo of our 3-Great-Grandmother from the 1870s in there that we'd never seen before). We got to show my daughters pictures of me with a mullet, of me with my prom date, and of their aunt in her dance outfits from when she was a little girl. It was really nice to share those things with them. I've been rewatching the TV show "Angel" the past week, because I saw a book about it at Half-Price Books (it's a verbal history of the show from the creators and stars, from the beginning to the end) and it just triggered a "hey, I should watch that again" response in me. It's why I plan to probably rewatch Buffy after this, and then possibly do a run through Firefly (not that it will take long...sob). Hope 2021 is a better year for you and for all of us!

I'm training my daughter at home. She should get through 'purple belt' levels (there are 2 of them) easier when classes resume.

First day of my new job today! Already shaved, ate breakfast, had my coffee, and packed a lunch. Put on business casual clothes for the first time in nearly five years (my last job was at a power plant, so it was jeans and pretty much any kind of shirt I wanted for 4+ years, and with COVID last year, I worked remotely from my house in shorts and T-shirts for almost ten months).
Really excited about this opportunity! It's going to be nice working for a "real" company that has a corporate structure, a plan for growth, and a future.
Hope all of you have a great day in whatever you are doing today. Cheers!

I posted this over in the Zoo call thread, but wanted to mention this to everyone else. A HUGE thanks to Icctrombone for setting up the Zoom call yesterday and doing a great job as the emcee. He should have a talk show. So great to see so many fellow self-admitted nerds, though I have to say, my knowledge of comics (and my memory) is minuscule compared to everyone else's. It was like watching a group of physicists talking quantum mechanics. I'd never even heard Rob Liefeld's name spoken aloud before; I realized I've been mispronouncing it in my head all these years. Here's the best part. Everyone (everyone else, anyway) was friendly, funny and interesting. I am also sorry that I shaved my moustache and beard, Roquefort Raider, but I had to do my best not to look as old as Shazam. Judging by the screen-capture, it didn't help much. Will be hiring a body double for the next go-round. Hope we can do it again!

I don't know about old, but bearded or not you absolutely looked like a distinguished professor! I always pronounced "Lee-feld", myself, so I stand corrected as well. (But then the names of comic-book creators were always a problem for this foreigner... Jill Kane, David Mishelinie, Doug Moh-ench... so many names I tortured over the years!!!)

Roquefort Raider, I think Gilles Kane would have been a great name for him! In fact, I'm going to start saying it like that in my "head canon." I always said Misheleeny, too, if it makes you feel better. The one that gave me the most trouble was Stan Lee.

The one that gave me the most trouble was Stan Lee. It's pronounced Throatwarbler Mangrove.
