I posted this over in the Zoo call thread, but wanted to mention this to everyone else. Oh snap, we should totally call it the Zoo call from now on ! I was hoping you'd notice and take the hint.

The kind of thing that just pisses me off.
Number of cases per week of Covid in our town of about 45,000: as of October 4, 12 new cases a week. As of December 26, over 150 cases a week.
The beginning of the big jump? Of course, the week around Thanksgiving. And this is in a relatively progressive state, with strict mask rules.
Jeebus Christmas, how would today's Americans have dealt with gas rationing during World War Two?
I know you can't fix stupid, but apparently selfishness is also carried on a dominant gene.
Oh, and of course, lots of people, including nurses and even doctors, are skipping the vaccine, with these kinds of excuses:
"You go first, then I'll see how it goes." (Woman working in medical office whose son suffers from CF.)
"They developed it too fast." (Nurse who lives next door.)
"I'm not gonna grow another ear or an extra arm." (Nurse in medical office.)
"If everyone else gets it, I won't need it." (Doctor.)
Thanks for playing, @$$holes.
Darwin was so frikkin' right. Except that we help the weak-minded. In the wild, we'd ahve no worries.
End of dark rant.

It reemphasizes the fact that MDs and nurses are not scientists, even though they use science-based techniques while preforming their art. Still... vaccines and the way they work are pretty basic stuff...

Good grief. I overuse this joke, but this is why we can't have nice things like Grandma, and Christmas. Well, I guess people did choose Christmas over Grandma. Ugh.
The amount of ignorance around the vaccine within the medical community is alarming to see, especially since the potential side-effects of the vaccine are DRASTICALLY less severe than the potential side-effects of COVID.
I'm reminded of the time I had to walk out of a clinic because the desk employee refused to put on a mask...while I was there for a COVID TEST.
Sigh.
My wife's aunt's entire family just had COVID because of a careless Thanksgiving. Her aunt and uncle were both hospitalized. Thankfully they are recovering and released, and hopefully there isn't too much lingering damage, but neither was the picture of health before. They're probably around 70 and are both medically obese, so that's two risk factors. Her uncle is home but still on oxygen. Their son was able to take them to the hospital and pick them up because he still has antibodies because he already recovered from COVID...
A guy I used to work with was on a ventilator for two and a half months. An acquaintance from my college is in his thirties and he was laid up for weeks because he got it at work as a server. My parents' neighbor a few doors down is literally dead because of COVID. My aunt and uncle had it early on and thankfully both recovered. My wife's OTHER aunt and uncle got it in their nursing home. But hey, at least that guy got to celebrate New Year's Eve in a bar!

(...) "They developed it too fast." (Nurse who lives next door.) (...) Yeah, for some reason this one in particular makes me want to pull my hair out whenever I hear it, and scream "Covid-19 isn't the first coronavirus, so are SARS and MERS! Pharma companies, universities and other medical research institutions have been doing research on similar viruses, and running vaccine tests and trials, for over 15 friggin' years!!"

My new phone didn't ship with a charger (thanks Apple!), and my iPad's chargeblock doesn't use a USB-C, so I'm boarding from my computer to try to conserve my battery as best I can. Gotta say, I'm not loving it. Everythings's all spread out horizontally. But I do see people's signatures now, which is kinda neat.

The Near Misses and Event Wrap-Up threads for 2020's Classic Comics Christmas will be posted no later than the end of the week, depending on how long it takes me to deal with some pressing non-comics matters.
Cei-U! Just so's ya know!

I hardly ever use my phone for any online activity - and trying to access a forum like this on it would be like a torment from hell.

Same here, the small screen of my phone just isn't a great medium for reading.

It's a pain to post anything other than raw text on the phone friendly version of the site, but other than that, I enjoy it for the most part

Especially with my laptop down. I'm fine with a sentence or two post from my phone but anything more than that is too painful.
