The only time anything should be added to Scotch is if you are drinking cask strength Scotch and have to add water. Otherwise, you are ruining good Scotch. Of course I haven't had cask strength Scotch since celebrating completing my Master's thesis with my thesis advisor who brought it back after spending a semester in Edinburgh a few years before that. -M I have never tried scotch. I drink occasionally but have yet to taste liquor that doesn't taste like shoe polish.

As it properly should be. And that truly is a beautiful and magnificent showcase. A burglar would be hard pressed on what to take 1st? Your comics, your guitars or your alcohol or whatever hidden treasures have yet to be shown. Though I am quite certain your security measures would deter most!I'm not saying that it isn't possible, but I assure you that a casual burglary attempt would be most foolhardy... aside from our own prevention measures, my immediate neighbors on either side of our property are quite like-minded in security issues, and we watch each other's backs, especially on extended absences. On top of that, if someone were stupid enough to attempt a break-in while we are home... well... did I mention that my wife is a professional firearms instructor? I picture you have a kilt and broadsword mounted on your wall next to an array of security monitors linked to motion detection on the ready. Also I prefer my whiskey neat with a splash of water to open it up a bit these days, whether that is Scotch, Irish or bourbon.

I don't really enjoy drinking alone, it's more a social thing for me, and all of my drinking buddies have either moved away or have had kids/new jobs/new life situations and their time is taken up by work and/or kids so we don't have concurrent time to get together (not in the slightest helped by the fact I work nights now). And my tastes in beer/ale and whiskey are quite snobbish, so I tend to price myself out of the stuff I like unless I am sharing it with friends. I still have a bottle of Irish Whiskey I use for the occasional Irish coffee, or a shot, and we have a few other liquors in the cabinet (I think I have a little Blue Sapphire Gin left as well and a few liqueurs my wife enjoys), but I haven't bought a bottle of booze or beer/ale in probably 4-5 years. -M

A claymore is far too unwieldy for someone of my stature (under 6 ft), and prevents the use of targe and/or dirk with the balance hand.

I know it's a comic book forum, so we don't need a lot, but you're hogging it all.

We can be your new social thing. I work nights and weekends, so I am rarely available when you have the meetings, and even if I were, I still don't have a working web camera/mike for the desktop (which is also set up in the living room so I would disrupt my wife's routine to use it) and I don't own/use a cellphone (wife does not me), so I need to do a tech upgrade if I were to join. It's the same reason I haven't gotten around to doing a podcast with Crimebuster, even though we've discussed doing one. I'm not quite a Luddite, but I prefer to limit/manage the tech in my life so I control/dictate its use, it doesn't dictate to me. It's a useful tool, but I prefer not to be beholden to it. so I tend to keep it to necessities if I can. This last year has almost made webcam/mike a necessity (especially with virtual visits for healthcare now), so I've been considering an upgrade, but I haven't done so yet. My wife on the other hand has her cellphone and multiple tablets, but still limits her tech use to necessities and picks and chooses a handful of indulgences for herself. -M

Seriously, I think most are probably "fezzed up" with me by now. I have plenty of antiquities and oddities for other days whenever the subject comes up... although I doubt that the conversation will ever veer into the subject of balalaikas, didgeridoos, or vintage/antique tobacco pipes.

Multicultural hats aside, that looks like a gorgeous guitar. I don't see the dings and paint chips that all of mine have.

That one is particularly special for a number of reasons, so extra care is taken whenever it is uncased. If someone ever starts a guitar or musical instrument thread, watch out, because I'll take up at least 3-4 pages worth of posts.
(If the above link gives you a warning, it's because the website was erroneously blacklisted by AVG/Avast very recently. That's supposed to be fixed now, but some folks are still having problems if their virus definitions aren't up to date. I can vouch for the legitimacy of the website, as I've managed the guitar database there for over 7 years)

Speaking of musical instruments... This came up on my Facebook memories today. This was my youngest son two years ago in his percussion pit. The high school band plays music as a pit orchestra for the yearly school musical. He was the percussion section all but his Freshman year. This was his Senior year and they did Fiddler on the Roof.
