I wish I had an avocado tree. It would save us a lot at the grocery store. I used to know someone who did have one. Visiting them was awesome. For as popular as they are and the price people are willing to pay, I'd like one too. Never eat the things though.  |

Never had an avocado tree, but back in 2002, I stayed with a friend of my soon-to-be-wife's out in Fremont, California for a month while I was looking for a job out there, and this woman had an orange tree in her backyard. Nothing quite like waking up in the morning, going outside, picking a fresh orange, and having that with my bowl of Cheerios. One of the companies I used to work for, however, DID have an avocado tree, or more to the point, an entire grove of them out in Bakersfield, California. It was on property the company had acquired to drill oil wells on, and they cordoned it off and kept them growing. Once a year, at harvest time, they would send four or five giant boxes to the Pittsburgh office for us to have. I would always grab two for my wife to make guacamole, but I, like adamwarlock2099, would never put one of those things anywhere near my mouth. |

I love avocado, but we have a restaurant here that's famous for their avocado-rita.
I tried it once, it was the consistency of drinking a glass full of snot, and didn't taste that great either (the tequilla didnt' go with it well at all, despite one thinking it WOULD. . as you dip salted chips into Guac while drinking margaritas.
So I love them. . but every time now I have PTSD flashbacks of that drink.

Now yer talkin'.... I also like them with a dash of Cavender's Greek Seasoning in lieu of the salt, because it also contains white pepper along with some salt and other spices. It totally rocks a ripe avocado... also great on boiled eggs. |

just a quick note - didn't want to put it in the main board for them, so this seemed like a good spot. *please* don't take my silence or lack of participation in the Jamie Awards as a dis. it's just not my jam, man. . . something I decided a long long time ago back on CBR when some of the "awards" were a bit too mean spirited for my tastes. Which is NOT to say the Jamies are anything like the old, snarky, CBR awards. So y'all have fun, but just wanted to note if anyone was wondering about my non-participation. (tho I did get an alert that someone nominated me as part of something, and it's acknowledged and appreciated, but I certainly don't need to be in the finals)  best, bert |

So while I was away this past week, this site broke its own record for most users online at the same time (161, which includes non-registered guests just lurking, of course). It's extremely comforting to see the community continue to grow seven years in and without all that much promotion on my part. Here's to an amazing eighth year, folks!
