More comics-related deaths. Damn. Unrelated, what are you guys reading these days, new or old? I've been in a rut with comics and generally ignoring them aside from The Walking Dead. Is there anything that is grabbing anyone's interest right now that's on the shelves or a classic? I wouldn't mind rekindling my interest about now. I haven't been reading much in comics here lately either but have been enjoying novels. Recently read Bulowski's Post Office again. Just got Tropic of Capricorn by Henry Miller a sequel to Tropic if Cancer and much in the vein of Bukowski's embellished autobiographies. I picked up a HC Lost World (I've read Jurassic Park and seen all the movies) for $1 and another (apparently) obscure find, The Man Who Killed Hitler which is reviewed here. obscurebookfinds.wordpress.com/2012/06/01/the-man-who-killed-hitler/I just grabbed it cause the cover (different than the one in the link) caught my eye and I'm always interested to read about Hitler, fact or fiction. Got that for 50 cents. I have several other non-fiction books to read from a book sale about 6 months ago from politics to death and afterlife to alcoholism and pathological liars. I also have the first of "dragon tattoo girl" books but haven't been in the mood to break it open. It's why I've avoided the movies as well. I'd rather read at least the first book.

I've been reading barely any comics for about two to two and a half months. I can't find the time or the interest. I was going through a drought with prose as well, but that has gotten better. I'm in period of reader's block.

I haven't been reading much in comics here lately either but have been enjoying novels. Yeah, I've been doing a lot of novels for years, though I use audiobooks rather than paper. My commute used to be 45 minutes each way, and I needed a way to pass the time, and as much as I love music, it doesn't occupy your mind like books do. When I discovered audiobooks, I was hooked. I just finished the Hunger Games books, and right now I'm listening to The Hobbit again, but next on deck is some Asimov. I'm reading the later additions to the Foundation series, and while not as good as the originals, even decent Asimov is better than most other shlock out there. I am willing to read/listen to a variety of things, but sci-fi/fantasy is by far my favorite (big shock for a comics fan, amirate?) I've been reading barely any comics for about two to two and a half months. I can't find the time or the interest. Yeah, that is basically what happened to me. I just lost interest, and my unread pile just kept growing and growing. I've since drastically cut my pull list, but even now I only read one thing, and my meager list still sits undisturbed. I will probably catch some motivation in the breeze one day though and blast through the accumulated pile, and at that time I will be appreciate for the built up content.

Count me among those in a (Western) comics slump. As mentioned elsewhere, the switch to getting books monthly instead of weekly has led to me reading a lot more manga. I've decided to quit buying comics for thr forseeable future, because my backlog is so ridiculous.

I saw the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer that dropped today. It evokes the feeling of the original trilogy ... better than the original trilogy does. Wow. Unrelated, what are you guys reading these days, new or old? I've been in a rut with comics and generally ignoring them aside from The Walking Dead. New, I've really only been enjoying the classic licenses published by Dynamite: their King titles (Phantom, Prince Valiant, etc.) and pulp properties (Justice Inc., The Shadow, etc.). The rest of it's too darned expensive, and I'm limited to buying it in the trades. Classic, check out the "What Classic Comics Have You Read Lately?" thread; I particularly enjoyed a couple of stories in Secrets of Sinister House I mentioned on the first post of p. 90.

The thrill of the hunt is always a big deal to me.

To be fair, I don't have anywhere to nearby to hunt, so it's pretty easy to stop.

I started reading Chicacabra and like it a lot. Surprised Beland missed out on the chance to make it more "all ages" with all the F-bombs and pot smoking, though.

I am not very franchise loyal, and am not a fan of the prequels, so I had little interest in this new movie. But I just saw the trailer and I have to admit, it looks super fun and super cool. That time of year is when all my favorite movies release, so I don't know if I'll see it in theaters or not, but right now it's looking like I will.

I'm not keeping up with a lot, but if I were, there's an Eric Powell series out called Big Man Plans that looks good. Sabrina issue #2 just came out. There's a new Stray Bullets series. Usagi Yojimbo is back. I don't know if you've read any Southern Bastards, but I really like that.

At this point I can't possibly muster any excitement for Star Wars. With the bad injection of the prequels into an already established story that made no sense until the original story was altered and the fact that the original movies aren't what they were to me when I was younger, it's just another entry into a franchise I've lost any interest in.

Oh, sweet CHRIST. I have been on the phone with the insurance company for over half an hour. I've been on hold for over 25 of those minutes. I was on hold so long that the phone forgot what it was doing and started ringing and had transferred me over to some other place that had nothing to do with what I was calling about. It was, like, a different dept or something.
I cannot handle this.

Rough week of news here, my mother's significant other had to be rushed to the hospital earlier in the week with a blockage in his colon, and they discovered the mass was cancerous when they removed it, so he will be starting chemo as soon as he recovers from the surgery and the incisions heal, and yesterday, my wife's cousin's 18 year old step son was killed in an automobile accident. SO a bit of a subdued household this week.
